(I just realized that this is a zombie thread- sorry about that!) I suppose I’ve been lucky- I wasn’t diagnosed till I was 26, and I managed to get through some pretty gruelling life events (good and bad- leaving it there) okay till then. I wasn’t any better at dealing with others though other than ...

I find that I tend to mirror conversational styles from my favourite authors, and directors. If I've watched FIrefly recently. that means the conversation gets snappy, and a little playful. One of my favourite series (Feed, from the Newsflesh Trilogy by Mira Grant) has a similar approach- the Whedon...

I can summarize things very VERY briefly, like " Spin is a book where the Earth gets caught in a sort of time warp." but if I need to be even a little bit more descriptive than that, I'm totally befuddled. I'm either going to read you the ENTIRE book, or you're going to accept my brief description ...

There is so much conflicting advice about bring up AS to an employer I have given up on the idea. The possibility that the person interviewing you will not understand what it means is too high. Instead of saying that you are an Aspie, just tell them what your strengths are, then use the ones you me...

Hullo! I'm based out of the north end of the GTA, and this sounds like a great idea! If I've followed the thread correctly, you want somewhere interesting, where everyone can sit down together but still have a bit of general privacy, correct? *I think it would be cool to just sit around a table with...

^^OK. I mentioned taking all kinds of career exams and aptitude tests If you've done a lot of career and aptitude tests, can you recommend any that would be free? Online stuff, maybe? I'm thinking about grad school, but cannot commit to a program and take out student loans, when I'm not confident I...

Is it necessary to get a pap smear if you are a virgin? Sometimes, like as a baseline. It makes sure you don't have 'structural' issues. I got a TB baseline test done before I went overseas, and I've always equated the two since they were done in the same period of time (over about 6 months). I had...

I also wonder, especially with the author being on the spectrum, if the book discusses whether women with AS present some of the same issues, especially those who are bisexual/lesbian in orientation. For instance, it mentions in the introduction that the women most attracted to men with AS are ofte...

Maybe a link to the DSM definition (use IV, since that was the one you would have been diagnosed under). I like this link for a quick explanation/justification that it's a real thing: http://www.help4aspergers.com/pb/wp_a58d4f6a/wp_a58d4f6a.html ; her book for ASD women in relationships is coming ou...

Okay, so there seems to be mutual consent at this time, if I'm following this correctly. I still think there should be an initial meeting in a public place- i.e. a cafe- but for your OWN safety as well, to ensure that she is who her profile says she is (this is not a point I would explicitly bring u...

How does being a dick to your wife negate extreme intellectual and scientific ability, any more than, say, holding revolutionary ideas about governance whilst also owning human beings as slaves means one isn't a revolutionary, all things considered? I was putting it in pretty blunt term, I agree. A...

Lots of us have learning difficulties yet we all get told by the books and websites that we're Einstein and superior. Lots of us are "emotionally stupid" IE have low emotional intelligence and bad methods of understanding others and working out problems. But the Einstein fantasy makes us think we'r...
