Thanks. For some reason, it reads very differently (to me, anyway) from the work of people I read, so I was worried about it being deficient in some important aspect from 'proper' writing. Duly noted on the worldbuilding thing - I was coming up with more details as I went along, and by the end I had...

I decided that online dating was the only way I could realistically meet someone, since I live in a small town and my only regular social interaction is at work with people I already know. Re: the problems that other people in this thread have raised. I think it depends on the site; OKCupid sounds l...

I recently did a short effort, divided into two halves out of convenience more than anything. It's intended to be read in one go. First half Second half There are one or two really obscure references thrown in, but the origin of the premise is really quite funny and might be of interest to anyone wh...

Thanks for the advice. I'm on my feet a lot of the time at work, so maybe my circulation slows right down when I get home and I start to *notice* that I'm feeling cold. I'll see how I get on with sleeping in my new place since the central heating there will be much better. Wearing socks doesn't seem...

Hehe, I said 'insert'. *Beavis chuckle*

I'm such a child. :P

I can't speak for the long-running fans, but I think JJ Abrams has done a good job of entertaining people who aren't familiar with the Trek francshise. I walked into the first movie without having seen a single episode or movie from the old days (apart from one movie involving dolphins, and didn't r...

Quite regularly these days. It's worse in winter due to the cold, but I get really cold feet all year round and can't get to sleep because of it. Then, after an hour or two, they suddenly warm up to normal body temperature and I can drop off. It must be a problem with my circulation because the rest...

It depends on a few things for me. Who I'm kissing (natch), hygiene and such. I'm a bit squeamish about that sort of stuff so I'd be worried about what we'd eaten last and whether we had brushed our teeth.

I try not to think about that stuff, otherwise I wouldn't be able to enjoy the moment. :)

Yes. Yes, they are. Well played.

Those feet make me laugh like an idiot though, and I've no idea why!

My Bloody Valentine - M B V It keeps cropping up in this thread, and rightly so. I think it took everyone by surprise: Kevin Shields basically posted "here ya go," on Facebook one day, and all of a sudden those two decades of waiting were over. I listened to it a few times and thought, "it's n...

Although I've been into elaborate guitar rock and orchestral-style classical, I've found the stripped-down acoustic guitar songs of Nick Drake have really grown on me lately. I bought his Bryter Layter album on holiday a few months back, but I'm currently listening to Five Leaves Left. I want my own...

I could actually see the same sort of situation developing as yours, cathylynn. Assuming any interest between me and this person is mutal, of course. That's what concerns me, because I don't want to put her in that sitation. I'm already feeling hurt, but trying to make it work would either 1. lead t...

Long time, no post, I know. Various things happened...I won't bore you with the details. Okay. Time to get on-topic. I recently experienced the first 'crush' I've had for a number of years but since I didn't know the person all that well, I talked to one of the few coworkers who is trustworthy and n...

Absolutely! My fave writers must be interesting and intelligent people to write as well as they do, so I'd like to meet and talk to them in person. Ursula Le Guin, William Gibson, Philip Pullman, Haruki Murakami and China Mieville strike me as 'thoughtful' people who'd have interesting things to say...

Yeah, those are wonderful times. I call them 'breakthrough' moments where you get the fuel you need to keep going, and when you remember why you started learning in the first place. I recall getting 'hooked' after learning chords through playing along to early Oasis and Green Day, but a moment that ...

I'm really prone to mishearing lyrics too; it annoyed me for years then I grew to like instrumental stuff, and got into Jpop/Jrock around the same time. Now I think of vocals as just another instrument in the mix, and appreciate it that way. There are a few lyrics that still resonate with me though....
