The problem here is that two differing terms exist with partially overlapping traits simply because of a disparity between two parallel studies with slightly different findings. Autism is a bit like a wide bar chart - with around 200 bars probably that will be high or low according to what traits an... |

I have this. Unless I can FULLY concentrate on what is being said, the English language might just as well be Chinese. I can hear the sounds, but cannot understand the words. It's called Central Auditory Processing Disorder (the 'Central' part of that title is not always used now). Public places are... |

I find it frankly absurd that people question it (but I agree - they do). If you tell people you have a raging headache, even though they cannot see it , they might tell you to go lie down, or offer you pain killers. They'll sympathise with your invisible symptoms. No-one says: "Of course you haven'... |

The Cradle in Thief: Deadly Shadows, what's so scary about an abandoned insane asylum / orphanage? Just about everything I thought it was really tame compared to some of the ghostier missions in Thief Gold. I missed those Thief games, but when I saw this thread title, I knew I was going to mention ... |

EA staggers a lot of their games (as do some other publishers). It's due mainly to commercial regulations where releasing games on specific days is intended to increase footfall in shops on a given day of the week. I *think* the US day is Tuesday, and UK Friday. The UK is (annoyingly) usually the la... |

I think being visual per se is not in itself anything to do with autism. For people who DO have it, it can bring with it a photographic recall, the ability to draw in great detail from imagination and memory alone, but it's not just a gift. It's something that cannot be switched on and off at will, ... |

I've received a UK diagnosis today via the NHS (GP referral). I'm 47, female, successfully employed and probably just one of thousands of invisible candidates like many here. My verbal communication is not monotone, I don't have melt-downs (but do have shut-downs if in a sensory-overload situation -... |

Gah! It was a good post - made me laugh.
I get the whole idea of calling Brian's condition AS as a reversal of reality (kids are taken to doctors as neurotypicals with 'odd' traits).
It works. I like it.
And I like Zep1! |

I do think it's a misleading assumption to say that more males have it than females, when the criteria for AS might simply be missing females as seems to be many people's experiences here... One problem is that the focus on traits is often in areas more likely to be found in males rather than female... |

Funny how people will tell you that you're not aspie when AS has SO many varying traits. If I say I have a headache, no-one tells me that I don't. If I say that, next summer, I expect to have hayfever (even though I am showing NO symptoms), no-one will tell me that I don't have hayfever. If I say I ... |

Light touch without forewarning is like a bolt of electricity to me and I leap out of my skin. Horribly unpleasant. Most recent embarrassing example was where, at a meeting, a colleague's knee accidentally touched mine under the table. I shot into the air with my chair clattering! The colleague look... |

I can't tell jokes (or find funny any jokes told to me) but I know I can be funny. I make my colleagues laugh easily enough - hopefully because I AM being funny and not any other reason(!). I'm pretty quick off the mark in giving out humour. But when humour is relayed back to me, I usually don't get... |

Seems peculiar that there are still people who will state "in God's name" that being in a committed gay relationship is so evil (when in fact this is not mentioned in the original scrolls at all) The Bible actually states that gays should be stoned to death, so I presume that includes gay marriage ... |

If God is real, I don't think he endorses half of the things that are said or done in his name. :P Indeedy! How true that is, and how very sad too. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the Leviticus verse (English translation) is widely accepted by theologians as a mistranslation anyway and has no re... |

The earliest obsessions I can remember having were for petrol station signs and electricity pylons at the age of 5. I still love both (there is a Pylon Appreciation Society , after all) though I'm not what I'd class as obsessed with either, these days - just collect pictures off the net here and the... |
