"diagnoses (dg-nsz)
The identification by a medical provider of a condition, disease, or injury made by evaluating the symptoms and signs presented by a patient."
How about that? And from the same web site, too. |

Taken in the context of medicine, self-diagnoses are worth exactly what the patient pays for them. |

Yes, Draelynn. They accepted you as self-diagnosed, not professionally diagnosed. |

Verdandi, I never said that AASPIRE was political. Stop attributing to me words and phrases that I did not use.
Here is my quote about AASPIRE:
Quote: AASPIRE is not a research institute. It is best described as a pressure / interest / lobbying / self-advocacy group. |

Basically, to earn the money, the claimant would need to identify, in a busy public place of my choosing, total strangers as being on the spectrum on the basis of the way that said total strangers walk, talk and make eye contact. The people picked out as being on the spectrum would need to be able t... |

Those pesky experts, why do they bother spending so much time for studying and training, if people can just approach an average joe for such medical opinions? Sheesh. You mean I went through the time and trouble and expense of getting a professional to interview me and my father (to get an idea of ... |

I wonder how many other people have noticed that those who self-diagnose are never wrong about their so-called "diagnosis". Didja also notice that even though a highly competent, appropriately trained, and legally licensed mental-health professional can be wrong, but never, ever a an incompetent, u... |

Why can't they allow homeless to temporarily live in the empty flats because at the moment there are still several residents refusing to leave. I would guess that, among other reasons, there are health and safety issues. If someone were to squat in the flats with the council's permission and were i... |

What Ettina did a statistical analysis of is people on WP who claimed to be self-diagnosed and then claimed to have their diagnoses confirmed. There is no independent confirmation of the latter. A bit like self-diagnosis, in fact. |

ground rules for how self-diagnosed autistic people should behave If you're going to be sarcastic, at least be accurate. I haven't seen any posts about how the self-diagnosed should behave . I have seen posts telling them, in effect, that their self-label is misleading and they shouldn't label them... |

Why is there no option for pre-conception? That's when I learnt to read. My mother had to get me a library card before I was born because I'd finished War and Peace by the end of the first trimester. |

AASPIRE accepts applicants for research who are self-diagnosed, although I do not know how often they're invited to do research studies. No one ever said that AASPIRE were invited to do research studies. The quote above says that the organisation accepts candidates for research. Therefore they do r... |

Yes, diagnosis requires careful consideration by a professional who is qualified to undertake such a task. And it's grossly insulting to those of us who go through the time and expense and anxiety of the process that others think that the same process can be replicated by reading some web sites and ... |

The blog mentioned in your post, Verdandi, merely leads back to information posted on WP. Therefore, there is no quality assurance - it is merely posters saying that they have self-diagnosed and then saying that they have been formally diagnosed. There is no triangulation or independent confirmation... |
