I agree with Franma. Maybe instead of paying for a meal you can pay for the sitter for the evening.

Definately the best feeling in the world. I finally knew "what was wrong with me" as I used to say. I'm proud to have AS mostly because everything makes so much sense now. And I know that I'm not the only one who doesn't get why we should care what color someone's new shoes are or whatever else NT's...

I don't drink and I'm a girl. I get the same reaction a whole lot. Even more so now that I'm 22 and people find out I've only had 1 alcoholic drink my whole life. When I hang out with friends they always ask me if it would bother me if they drink. I have to frequently reassure them that its not a mo...

I hate to say it but you need to cut him off. He sounds like he has some very serious issues and is trying to control you by threatening to hurt himself. It's actually a very strong indicator to someone who may try to abuse you (not physically usually) most likely verbally. Generally speaking people...

I often feel like people are mad/annoyed with me for reasons that I don't see/understand. It makes things difficult at times but I try to ignore the feeling. I have learned that people either (a) get over it (b) tell you what you are doing to upset them or (c) aren't upset with you at all were reall...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Can you suppress AS behaviours and "act NT"?

I can do it. It's really overrated though, because when you slip up NTs make an even bigger deal about it. If you act like AS from the start they get used to it, but if you try and act NT and then the AS slips out it freaks them out a little.

I'm not ashamed. I'm frustrated. The worst is the people who think they understand it and so totally don't. And yea having people telling you what they were doing at your age. I mean come on, do they not realize we would if we could? I really don't thing anyone wants to spend 20+ hours a week trying...

I definitely suggest trying to find a dental school in your area. They are very understanding about anxiety when it comes to dental work and are very willing to accommodate you however they can. Plus it is much cheeper and since they are new they are very good about listening to concerns you have ab...

I would say that it is. I'm not that way with my food, but I do have things like that. It can be very frustrating both to us and the people around us. I suggest that if you have a day where it's going to really interfere with enjoying your meal, tell your waiter that you have digestive issues and as...
