Something that we do is when my daughter says something rude, I just say "What you just said came across as rude. Were you intending to be rude?" She does answer honestly, so she'll say yes if she was being rude on purpose. If she says no, I explain why the statement she made was rude, and help her...

Thank you so much for posting this. We struggle so much with homework. I really liked the idea of having time set up at the end of the school day for homework. Your son sounds wonderful and he is so lucky to have a mother who care so much for him. Having support is the most important part to him being successful in life.
