Getting a diagnoses will help with some of your anxiety because it will quell the uncertainty. Go see a neuropsychologist, but make sure they're knowledgeable about ASD beforehand. I was prescribed Xanax on perhaps four different occasions (before I was diagnosed) by doctors in urgent cares as well ...

I constantly pop my right wrist, but it's a stim I've always done. It's essentially the result hand flapping.

I can relate to this. When I listen to something or start to thinking about something I can subconsciously unfocus my eyes so I see two pictures. But it's not that I don't see the pictures, I can analyze them as well, but in a bit different way. I always thought that it's my own trait, because I wa...

This is a question for diagnosed Aspies preferably. Does anyone else unfocus their eyes while concentrating, or when detailed vision isn't really necessary? I notice this most prominently when playing guitar or the piano and concentrating on the notes. When I read this BBC article it made sense, kin...

I, like Sora, walk on the outsides of my feet. Starting on the the outside of the heel, so that I do not bob at all when I walk. It definitely suits a sensory purpose, if only for the sake of my eyes. A book could be balanced on my head at all times, so that walking for me is like a panning video ca...

Yes, I know what you mean. I didn't get on a plane until I was 21 and I didn't leave the country until 26. I am living in Japan now and have been for 5 years, but I have no desire to travel to any of the countries around me. People think this is weird and I should be jetting off to Thailand and Vie...

There are several... When I was thirteen I was put on a plane by myself and I had a terrible panic attack with no one to help, back when I did not even understand them. At seventeen a terrible car accident where I wasn't even driving, but I broke a windshield with my head (even though I was wearing ...

I always feel like leaving a place is akin to kicking off one side of a lake and having to swim all the way to the other end, over the perilous deep unknown and all. I only ever really feel safe once I get to the destination and even then some recovery time is necessary. This applies to driving or p...

I have been driving for eight years with no external incidents, but I get so overwhelmed in a sensory way sometimes that I get panic attacks. Hyperventilation usually brings it on and then my hands tingle and I have to pull over for a while. Driving forty five miles each way to university one year w...

I am not a fan of Attwood's books or any books written by and for NTs about autism. I do not identify with the NT interpretations of autism in the books. Since I have a lifetime of personal experience of autism, I do not need so-called experts with no personal experience to tell me about myself. Ho...

Has anyone read both "Asperger's Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals" and "The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome" ? I just finished the complete guide, which was published more recently; will I gain any new information from reading the guide for parents and professionals as well? I n...

Did the newspaper look legitimate? When I read, it seemed so suspicious the entire time that I couldn't help thinking they keep a lot of pictures of westerners and then match them up when they see them on the street in order to take advantage. Or it could have been a coincidence blown out of proport...

Gosh, that wikipedia page portrays it well. I've never used any drugs, either. I especially get the level one "visual snow" quite often while I'm awake with my eyes open. It's annoying and makes me anxious.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I was sort of afraid of it happening because every time I mentioned it to someone they wouldn't know what I was talking about. Thanks everyone.

I'm not sure if this is an aspie thing, or some form of synesthesia, but I notice whenever I lay in bed for a long time thinking, in the dark with my eyes closed, but cannot fall asleep, I see green and sometimes purple "clouds" (as I will call them). It only happens when I am deep in thought and th...
