Homework was always a nightmare for my daughter (while she was still in school). By the end of a school day she was absolutely exhausted. It used to take her forever to do homework because she was so stressed. A homework club at school can go some way to help - but even then it isn't ideal. Curiousl...

I have always said here it is a case by case thing. Depends on the child, depends on the school.

I certainly agree with this.

DW_a_mom: how old is your high school son?

I actually find this subject quite fascinating. For some time now I have wondered if it is really possible for a child with Asperger's Syndrome to actually get through the school system without it being too much of an ordeal. Whilst I have seen posts from parents who say their child is doing okay, a...

My daughter was precisely the same at that age - and still is (age 22). She has one or two friends now. But doesn't see them regularly. I think that you will find this is true of most (not all) kids with AS. Advice I wish someone had given me at the time: 1) You are probably more concerned about it ...

I don't think there are any easy answers here. My gut feeling is that Tracker is right. DW_a_mom - I understand what you are mean about the child saying they want to stick with school - but I would worry whether this is just what the child thinks they are expected to say. Let me give you an example....

Someone asked a similar question a few days ago. I have copied the reply I gave to them below. ************************************************ Speaking as a parent I can say that I used to worry about this all of the time. I was always trying to figure out how my daughter might get more friends. I ...

>>What is a mum to do!! ! Probably a rhetorical question. But I'll answer anyway. As a father who has been in exactly your position (my daughter is much older now) - I can tell you that there isn't any more that you can do. The pattern will probably continues as she grows older. My daughter (now 22)...

I'm not a mum - I'm a dad.

I can tell you that a note like that would mean the world to me. You meant it when you wrote it - so leave it.

My (AS) daughter's friends have all been NT.

But to be honest I don't think you can generalise. I think all people (NT or AS) just 'click' with some people and not others.

Personally I think your book needs to be direct/blunt. You may well be telling people things which they would prefer not to hear. But isn't that the whole point? There is no shortage of reference texts which tiptoe around the subject. But why produce another one of those? I have read numerous books ...

If I understand you correctly - your son is seventeen?

If that is the case - can I ask how he has coped with school/school work in the teen years up to now.

Has he always had the problems you describe or is this relatively new?

Hand flapping (or any other kind of stimming) is your child's way of coping with the environment.

You shouldn't try to stop this. And you certainly shouldn't tell your child it is wrong or inappropriate.

It is almost certain that anxiety/stress will be at the root of this. Anger (and most of the associated issues) are almost always the outlet for the anxiety/stress. Has anything changed at the times when his behaviour is different? Remember it can be almost anything - almost any change can result in...

We did the theatre, sport and guitar too. My daughter enjoyed them all to a greater or lesser extent - but no friendships c...
