This doesn't address the OP's question, but I thought I'd throw my experience out there. I also have sensory issues with the water above my neck, and because of that (and the fact that I sink like a brick), I failed swimming lessons every year as a kid (probably 3-8 years old), and several times now...

I just started The Song of Bernadette by Franz Werfel. It's a little outside my normal range of book choices, but I'll enjoy it immensely if it make it all the way through.

Hi everyone. I'm a 25 year old woman currenlty in school (for my MLIS) but not opposed to becoming a full time housewife. I'm hoping to connect with a few aspie (or otherwise non-NT) women over e-mail (maybe eventually AIM) in order to make general online friends. PM me if this sounds like you and y...

My depression started when I was 9 or 10. I don't see myself as having an "old" self, but I do sometimes wonder what I would be like without it. At better times, I feel like I've gotten glimpses of my "other" self (the person I'd be if I wasn't depressed), and sometimes I do want her to come out more.

I'm 25, and I once got denied service trying to buy beer at a baseball game because the woman started yelling at me that my ID is obviously a fake and that she was going to call the cops if I didn't leave. My wife is 27, and she hasn't gotten carded more than occasionally since she was 22 or 23. I g...

Greetings all, I joined Wrong Planet a while ago when I was first learning about Asperger's and trying to figure out if that might be an explanation for some of my idiosyncrasies. I didn't post or interact much then, in part because I got the feeling that anything short of an official diagnosis is n...

Practically all logic is based on underlying assumptions (even very broad ones, like, "the world is real"). I find that my underlying assumptions tend to be different than other peoples', which means that my logic seems illogical to them. That doesn't make me illogical, it just means that sometimes ...

It's a balancing act. As an adult, I still rely on the people who love me to forcefully remove me from the apartment every once in a while (I can come up with any excuse not to leave). At the same time, you have to be extra aware of his need for alone/processing time (and any specific sensory issues...

I'm not sure whether I see the need for a symbol either, but because every "cause" has a ribbon, I do really like MagicMeerkat's ribbon. I once stumbled on a children's book called "All Cats Have Asperger's" (or something like that) that made laugh. It made way too much sense.

Most of my favorites have been mentioned already so I won't rehash what's been said, but my all time favorite movie (gay or not) ever hasn't come up yet: Saving Face (2004). Perhaps it's just because I identify with the main character (in that I am shy/awkward and have a thing for dancers), but I fi...

I don't announce it to everyone, but if the topic comes up in conversation, i will talk about either AS or bipolar. If you feel there is a stigma about bipolar disorder, then you should talk about it. I agree. I don't go out of my way to bring up any of my issues (particularly bipolar), but if it's...

I've done this twice. Once was when the professor told me (about three minutes after having met me, and knowing nothing about my background and education) that he thought I should have an easier goal because I would never get into the program I was aiming for. The other time when when I had a profes...

I make really really brief eye contact, almost as if to say, "HA! I did it and now I can feel okay about myself." Never for more than a split second (often not enough for them to really even make eye contact back), and almost never more than once in one interaction. Like people have said, I think it...

Oh man, I do this too. I'm sure it's obnoxious to others, but I can't help but freak out anyway.

I find touch from anyone other than my spouse incredibly invasive. What I struggle with in social situaitons is my verbal response. When someone touches me unexpectedly, I almost always say "ouch." It ins't a response to pain, exaclty, but it's uncomfortable and I say it before I've had time to proc...
