I lived with a girl for two years who had ADHD - I'd like someone who doesn't believe it exists to try living with her for that long and still tell me it doesn't exist! |

Something crossed my mind today - do Aspies judge people differently than NTs? Supposedly people with AS don't observe/interpret social norms the same way as NTs, and I wondered if this affects the way we see others, especially those we don't know. For example, today I was leaving work with my frien... |

I have to honestly say I can't choose either, I cannot handle extreme cold or hot. I used to live in a really cold climate and now I live in a really hot climate and when I'm in either extreme I am completely unable to focus on anything else until I'm comfortable again. I mean I get REALLY bad and a... |

I agree with you somewhat Booie - I think most people to some extent have the characteristics of AS, but there is that line between having characteristics that all make us "weird" and having the condition where it actually affects your life. I honestly think that a professional diagnosis is helpful ... |

In response to Clara's original post, I noticed that many of the traits mentioned sound a lot like the characteristics of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Keep in mind that if you don't have the time/money for a professional diagnosis that all other possibilities have to be ruled out for a diagnosis (... |

I hear a lot of people with AS being the INTJ personality type (I could be wrong) but I doubt that's always the case because there are many factors that can influence your personality that aren't completely genetic. I have taken the personality evaluation myself and I'm an INFP. So I'm not sure how ... |

I used to work as a sales person for Bed, Bath and Beyond and actually did pretty well there, but I think that's because I loved all the stuff they sold there so I got so enthusiastic talking about everything there that people would buy the stuff! However, the pay and hours were really crappy and I ... |

I've looked into that myself, I think you either have to get a degree in Psychology or Social Work, which is about 6 years of school...but then again you might be able to avoid that if you volunteer first and get the experience. Some places may be more lenient in the hiring of those w/o Psych or Soc... |

I couldn't really go gluten-free because I'm pesca-vegetarian (only meat I eat is fish) and that would limit my choices of food even further...I however cannot stand artificial sweeteners like nutra-sweet or equal, or anything with aspertame for that matter - it makes me really sick. I walked on my tiptoes until I was probably about 14 when I got basically ridiculed by adults and made fun of by my peers for doing it - So I had to train myself to stop doing it. I still walk really funny apparently, I'm told I walk like a little kid and have a really odd childlike posture. I used ... |

My dad and brother both are diagnosed w/ ADHD, I think my dad also has OCD as well. I believe there were a few people on my dad's side of the family that were autistic.
I've never been evaluated for AS, but am about 90% sure I have it. |

There's something about this Indigo Child thing that makes me think of Scientology. I may have some strong beliefs in Eastern Philosophy and religion which is often seen as "new age" in the West (which I take as an insult), when I come across claims such as the "Indigo Children" I get very suspiciou... |

It doesn't matter if you have AS or not - , who cares if you have AS or not? It would help for my future jobs, and to get professionnaly help. Some peoples will accept me more easier if they know why I'm a little bit differents than normal people. That's what I find that important to me. Very good ... |

It doesn't matter if you have AS or not - if you feel more connected to this community than among "normal" people why would you leave? I know it's a possiblity I may not have Asperger's because I've never been diagnosed. It's still possible that I could see a specialist who is familiar with AS who c... |
