I'm not being snobby about community college, it's just that--after 4 years of attending an extremely rigorous magnet high school where he's already taking college level courses (some of which are AP classes he'll actually get college credit for)--I think he'd be really bored at a community college.... |

Thanks, guys. Maybe I'm dreaming...but I guess what I'd really like for my son--is balance. I definitely do not want him to be a slave to the academic side because he currently attends that sort of high school and has no social life whatsoever. I want the professors to be brilliant and inspiring...b... |

Thanks, all! Meistersinger he's a devout atheist so not sure the religious schools would be ideal, though I realize not all schools with a religious history are religious, per se. Aspie1: really appreciate your perspective and you've got a point! Options and extroverts can come in handy in the roman... |

The only colleges we are considering are ones with strong academics. I was thinking mainly in terms of the social aspect i.e.. built-in opportunities for people to get to know each other (and lots of people who might not do that otherwise)--even if its just a particular dorm that was especially heav... |

Any other parents out there starting to think about college? My son is--as most of your children are, I'm sure--very bright and partly because of his anxiety issues, he actually does pretty well in school. He goes to an extremely competitive/rigorous school which is a bit much, but he is definitely ... |

I'm hoping anyone on the spectrum with a strong positive college experience will post the name of their college here. I'm especially interested in small colleges (2500 students or less) but not community colleges because I want dorms that have a lot of nerdy or nerd-tolerant types? Anyone? Hoping th... |

My dream was to send my child to a waldorf school and at the time I did not realize he had Asperger's. We sent him to our local waldorf school at age 4 but it did not work out due to my child's social issues. Although lovely and wonderful for many reasons, Waldorf really isn't a great fit for an Asp... |

The main point of my post on this thread was to make a joke about the thread title...I didn't realize it was going to show up so tiny. As an afterthought I decided to comment on my concern about my son finding a mate. No big deal...sorry if you felt like it was misplaced or irrelevant. |

But yeah. I'm NT (more or less) but AS has touched my life in more than one way. My college bf had AS (though I didn't know it at the time) and my son has it. I worry about him ever finding someone who will tolerate his eccentricities but as I once read--and as I often suspect--his being alone is mo... |
