I'm finishing my triple major in behavior psych, social psych, and women's studies. It's strange, really: what seems to be taken for granted in psych circles and seems simple is all kinds of hard to understand apparently if you're not exposed to it all the time. So, I just summarized what I've learn...

I read this on the first page of this thread and want to clarify it.... Just FYI and all: Asperger's is autism with adequate speech as an adult Autistic disorder has the same social impairment as Asperger's, but with a severe verbal impairment that continues all throughout life These are generalizat...

The "spectrum" actually refers to a set of behaviors, not to any particular genetic anomalies... Mental health professionals use labels (autism, bipolar, etc.) to convey lots of information (here, the "[behavior] presentations" of patients) in a very concise format (though it may not fit the individ...

Thank you everyone for posting your replies. All of these stories are really wonderful and deserve more attention than what I can currently muster (I have midterms this week). Please keep them coming and I will stop back to read them further and respond properly when I get the chance in a few days! ...

i think there is a difference between studying and being productive: studying means you have to go over stuff (more than the one time) in order to understand (or better understand) it, while being productive means producing stuff (e.g. written work, lab experiments, class participation, doing stuff ...

I've been coming to this site for a LONG time now and find myself still hunting for people to whom I can relate... but I seem to be on the losing side. So, I've decided to put myself out there first, in the hopes that people will be able to relate to me and post their own replies. I'm a 28yr old fem...

The real problem that typically reveals a porn addiction is an inability to orgasm when the porn is replaced with a real human being. I have known many guys who have gotten to that point, even a couple that ended up turning down the real thing (when their girl wanted it) for a bunch of pixels on a s...

All I meant was that maybe it's possible that the increase in awareness has in turn made professionals more likely to dish out undue labels that acually make things worse because those diagnosed give up trying to improve. This is currently a huge concern in the academic realm. The second concern is ...

That's ridiculous! Just look at little kids at play. So you think they are TAUGHT to do that? I still remember what it was like. NOPE! And WHO says the silicon valley is the biggest area? Still, such a finding DEFEATS your arguement! The fact is that it is NO easier to get tied into technology and ...

Scripting everything... using fill in the blank scripts that have preselected, well designed, multipurpose options... has totally saved my arse in just about every situation I would have otherwise had difficulty navigating. They are probably the most important reference tools I own. I have been buil...

If I can just say this one thing... the women in porn are there because they have convinced themselves that their ability to please guys is the best way to judge their own self-worth. When they are good at it, they have higher self-esteem and feel good about themselves, but for all the wrong reasons...

I think rincemeister is cool, but briangwin33 just made me want to scream a bit. I think getting advice from "alpha males" (who are in my oppinion equal to sexist guys) is a bad way to go about getting a girl (for any reason). Just because something is effective doesn't mean it's ethical. And as for...

Has anyone here ever considered that the ASD diagnosis is increasingly more common because our social environment discourages or ignores direct, active, formal social education? Maybe we are just a product of our society, having been born with certain deficiencies perhaps, but certainly not as profo...

NEVER listen to a woman for advice on how to deal with women. Unless a person has personally been in a relationship with a woman, or seduced one, or been in love with one; then that person has no idea what they are talking about. A woman talking about how to deal with women romantically is like a v...
