I love my dad but personally, I feel safer and more able to confide in my mom. Dad seems to be more intimidating and, I don't know, scary when trying to speak emotionally. It has always been that way. I think it is because he wants to play little jokes or tickle meand I never took that well.

I actually understand a little bit of what you're talking about. I feel most isolated at big family gatherings or when I am surrounded by my NT friends. I feel like I need to run and hide a corner wth a book. The book doesn't demand emotional content or social confirmations. I think that is what bot...

I think some of the worst pieces of advise i got were "just ignore them, they'll go away", "you need to get a sense of humor", and along the lines of be yourself, "just sit and talk to the other kids." I heard A LOT of that! The worst was in middle school and the humor wasn't good because it is like...

Today I bought a book by Rudy Simone called 'Aspergirls: Empowering Females with Asperger Syndrome.' As a self-diagnosed AS female, I am finding it quite interesting, although I have one or two reservations, which aren't really important. I was wondering if anyone else has read this book or any of ...

I was diagnosed with Asperger's by a doctor, and attend a support group for young adults on the spectrum. The director of the group, an older woman who works with people on the spectrum, said she doesn't believe I am on the spectrum. She believes my symptoms are due to a mood disorder, and that the...

Amen! I now have had three interviews for nearly 40+ applications and at least one felt my lack of social interaction was painfully clear to the manager.

I am college graduate who is a history lover. I came to WP to see if I could meet others like me. I guess one thing I want to ask anyone on this site is that I always have a tendency to separate from my family and friends at any gatherings because I feel like I don't understand or belong in the con...

I was diagnosed in 2009, by accident. I was working in a high school, and had several AS and autistic students. I was sitting in my first series of ARDs, and after they had finished, the diagnostician took me aside and asked me if I had ever been tested. I said no. She arranged for the school diagn...

Simples. As some of the people on this website are unable to manage face-to-face relationships, we're unable to get on in life: evolution has ensured that NTs consider those of us who don't do eye contact can be a little shifty.
