Glad I'm a vegetarian too.

If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian.

And you omnivores shouldn't complain- you shouldn't realistically expect top quality meat when you're paying 99 cents for a hamburger...

A self-sustaining, self-replicating machine would have to be able to keep itself alive. All machines have a weakness whether it's a plug (into an outlet) or parts that wear out over time. And at the same time, any "thinking machine" would have to use electricity for thought- anything else is just to...

I was a salesman for many years. I started with a coin and baseball card company and I was doing cold calling... calling strangers out of the blue to get them to buy the worthless crap we sold at ridiculous prices. I was so good at it that I eventually became the head of the sales department for the...

>>Are you still around Ladakh? Have we changed your mind at all? How are you feeling? Whats the situation?<< I am still here. I have been talking privately with TheMachine1 about stuff and that helps a little. Quartermass wrote on another board: >>Ah, something to take your mind off the deadline, eh...

I have thought about that but disagree, mostly because I am a human machine and not a machine machine. But if you're right and the next step is free willed, self-replicating machines then we are very very close to that becoming a reality. If this is true then we already know who will replace us: goo...

It is very difficult to keep this discussion without resporting to philosophy. Is there value to wisdom and compassion? Of course- without wisdom and compassion, things would start to self-destruct. If we all agree that after life itself, the most important thing is to evolve into a higher intellige...

>>The ability to reproduce is the most important aspect of survival. It's why birds, mosquitoes, cockroaches, etc. are far more populous than elephants, monkeys, dolphins, etc. We as humans do OK mainly because we've killed off everything else that could threaten us...that and we do tend to screw a ...

Specifically, "Type 3 civilizations". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kardashev_scale Let me give you an example. A type 3 civilization would have mastery ove...

Actually, I'd like to revise my own statement. The most important thing in the universe is life. Do we all agree that life pops up wherever it can, meaning not only is the Earth completly full of life but most of the universe has (or had or will have) life... that the entire universe is nothing but ...

>>No. We need to evolve physically so that we have, like, wings and tails and stuff.<< I don't know if you were kidding or not but I believe it's better to be smart(er) than grow wings or tails or fins or whatever... with increased knowledge, you can build stuff like artificial planes and submarines...

Annoying, repetative sounds. Like someone tapping their fingernails on a table. A lot of people talking at once, especially in a small room. People who do not say thank you. People who can't spell. People who can spell, but are too lazy to properly spell. Non-handicapped people in handicapped spaces...

Awesomelyglorious- I read your post several times and simply have to agree with what you said. I also did more research and found out that most multi-millionaires in America are seniors and most of them got it from real estate, not businessmen. Excellent points you brought up.
