I'm under the impression that famous professors at prestigious universities usually don't even teach undergraduates so this program doubly cool. That is definitely not true with regard to the top liberal arts colleges. Liberal arts colleges do not have any graduate students so all the focus is on t... |

k... now that i've read this... i still stand by what i say... that if you're going into science (i seem to remember you saying that you wanna research autism)... it doesn't matter what uni you attend... it's the research being done there. (i somehow doubt these elite schools are elite due to their... |

Out of curiosity, how old are you/what year are you in school, ButchCoolidge? I used to be really obnoxious about academic achievement when I was a senior in high school/freshman in college. I was convinced that I graduated at the top of my high school class, got high SAT scores, and got into a sele... |

I am a student at an 'elite' liberal arts college, but I'm not comfortable saying which one.
I think that how good your education is is simply a matter of how much effort you put into it, not where your college is ranked. |

The main difference is difficulty with math. People who have both AS and NLD have difficulty with math whereas people who have just AS do not necessarily have difficulty with math. |

Most colleges do have an office of disability support services, which provides support for AS students. |

The diagnostic interview and neuropsychological testing for my AS diagnosis cost 1,500 American dollars, but insurance covered some of it so my parents only had to pay 800 American dollars. I think it was worth it. Even the cost of yours is cheaper than over here and that's just for an AS diagnosis... |

They gave me a bunch of neuropsychological tests at my testing. I don't remember all of the names of the tests, but I know some of them were the WAIS-III, Eyes Test, Tower of London, and Rey Osterrieth Complex Figure Test. My testing was for school, though, so I think there were a lot of psychoeduca... |

I agree that chelation is a dangerous, ridiculous treatment for ASDs because the vasty majority of ASDs are not caused by mercury poisoning. I actually wrote a paper on this for my Medical Ethics course in college. HOWEVER I disagree that ASDs should not be cured. I think that we should continue to ... |

logitechdog, you missed my point. The Met gene was just one little example and was definitely not the point of my post. I was trying to explain that only one chromosome out of 46 differs from the male to female genome. It is very unlikely that all, or even any, of the genes that are involved in auti... |

20 to 25 per 10,000 children funny how this figure is totaly different to others, or why more boys have these syndromes than girls study in the chromosomes to a male.... /* There are 24 chromosomes that make up the human genome. As a whole, the chromosomes contain all the 30,000 or so genes it take... |

I am offended by the title- "A Girl with A Boy's Brain." Having AS does not mean that one has a boy's brain! I found some similarities between my life and Kiriana's and some differences. Our interests have been different, but our diagnostic/educational history is similar. Like her I was incredibly s... |

If you live in the U.S., you might want to check with the nearest chapter of the Asperger's Association. I know the Asperger's Association of New England offers group gatherings designed to promote social skills...though I'm not sure if they are actually classes. Nevertheless they are a great resour... |

BTW, was it Senator Cornyn or Senator Hutchison that tried to strike it down? I couldn't remember so I had to look it up in the article I originally read about it- http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15792805/site/newsweek/. Apparently it was actually a member of the House of Representatives, not a senator... |

President Bush signed the Combating Autism Act into law today! See http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/12/20061219-3.html for details. This act addresses ALL of the Autism Spectrum Disorders, including Asperger's Syndrome. The main thing this act accomplishes is allocation of funding for Au... |
