Sami, I think you are right about overcompensating due to being a verbal punching bag when I was younger. This doesn't affect me as much in relationships, because once I know someone better and we're in a comfortable environment, I can process things much quicker and simply ask for clarification of ... |

I'm a 50-year-old woman, single after a 5 year relationship, and having a lot of trouble with dating. The problem is that I enjoy talking with people, but am unable to process hurtful comments in real time. So I will just keep engaging with someone without really knowing what if anything is wrong, b... |

We found a doctor that figured out the problem, both for my fiance and myself. It turns out that if someone has adrenal problems as well as thyroid problems, which is common for people on the spectrum, they need to take hydrocortisone pills along with the thyroid medication, or it won't work. In my ... |

Hi all, I actually started this thread last year, and have resolved the problems since then. I'm not sure how much the hearing loss contributed to things, but it turned out that I had an auditory processing disorder. I undertook an intensive program of audio exercises designed to correct this ("Fast... |

AspE, Thanks for your suggestions. It sounds like I'll just need to work things out as I go along, and get extra help when I need it. Drawing individual objects isn't a problem, just an entire scene where you need to decide how much detail to include, and what to change to make the picture look more... |

When you see the object as a recognizable thing, we tend to ignore how it actually looks and draw how we think it's "supposed" to look. AspE, I just saw this post. Some people on the spectrum, like myself, are not like this. We don't get symbols, and draw things the way they really look. That's the... |

What do you mean exactly by "thumbnails" and working "top down"? AspE, believe or not, I'm very good at design and also did that professionally for many years. I can appreciate and understand abstract art, I just can't do it. My problem is that I am unable to start a work with the big picture, or r... |

Yes, this happened all the time in school, and it's the same with my daughter. Unfortunately this got me in a lot of trouble in the work world. |

I am going to my local junior college, because they are the only ones that provide services for adults on the spectrum in my area. I'm taking digital art classes, which includes some traditional art, but as has always been the case, am running into a lot of problems. I for the life of my can't do th... |

Thanks for your feedback. I think my problem is that I think in pictures, like Temple Grandin in that movie about her. I do take advantage of this ability as much as possible, but lately I have to do so much talking with health care professionals regarding my daughter's many serious health issues, t... |

So I've had some sort of verbal processing disorder all my life, both spoken and written, which was never formally diagnosed because it was fairly mild until about 3 months ago when I went to one too many loud rock concerts. Since then the problem has gotten severe. I had my hearing tested, and I di... |

I had this same problem too, and just take sublingual B12 2500mg. It is very common for people on the spectrum to need to take a multi-B with additional B12 and sometimes additional B3 or folic acid. Things get worse as you get older. That's just the way it goes. I got by without anything for most o... |

I have Aspergers/ADHD with symptoms of progressively worsening brain damage. I take 54mg Concerta which allows me to hold a conversation, drive a car, etc, none of which I can do without ADHD med as of about 1.5 years ago. Never used it before that. I am trying to get the brain damage part figured o... |

I got an important B-12 tip last night from my fiance that's the professional vitamin expert. He said that unless a blood test shows that you have a B-12 deficiency, it's best to try the sublingual 2500mcg B-12 for one month to see if it helps you. If it does, keep taking it, if it doesn't, you are ... |

Kotshka, it sounds like you should get your thyroid levels checked if you haven't already. Cold hands, feet, brain fog and memory problems are all symptoms of a thyroid disorder. It really sounds like you need to get time off work to see a doctor. Also, I hate to break this to you, but taking psyche... |
