Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Question in Stack Exchange that gets me in trouble

Stack Exchange in general has a strong bias against questions that are intended to drive debate, as opposed to questions with concrete answers. If you read the "meta" StackExchange sites, you'll see that it's a regular & recurring theme of contention. SE's moderators are extremely powerful, but ...

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: how to control meltdowns?

The best way to avoid meltdowns is to decisively and unapologetically remove yourself from whatever is pushing you into one. Remember, NOBODY has the right to push you into a meltdown. I don't recommend resisting with physical force, because it will almost always backfire on you. Public, polite pass...

Aspies aren't necessarily better-looking, but are probably more likely to have the potential to go from "hideous" to "hot" with little more than a haircut, new clothes, and changes to either one's facial hair or makeup (depending on gender). Sure, there's always the occasional thirtysomething mom wh...

Empathy is putting yourself in another person's shoes and imagining how it must feel for that person. You forgot an important qualifier... Empathy is putting yourself in another person's shoes, imagining how it must feel for that person, and simultaneously realizing at more than a theoretical, abst...

If he has any aspie tendencies, they're just one part of the genetic perfect storm that occasionally produces somebody so mentally toxic, if he were any worse he'd have died in the womb by actively killing his mother during the second trimester. In buffet terms, take a scoop of aspie, then bury it u...

Maybe a 7-day Kwanzaa-like holiday that runs from 12:00:00am December 25th until New Year's Day? One day for Tesla, when kids get electronic toys. One day to honor cats for being perfect companions & buy toys to entertain them with. Laser pointers & remote-controlled mice for all! ;-) One da...

For a possible answer, find out what your MBTI type is. Two aspie INTPs with substantial overlap in their special interests can become almost instant soulmates, and remain passive low-maintenance friends for decades afterwards (meaning, neither one of you really has to DO anything to regard each oth...

Yes, you need a degree. It would be nice if it's in software engineering, but having a degree in *something* matters the most. Without one, your resume won't make it past the HR department's receptionist, and nobody will take you seriously. It's a checkbox item... but a fairly non-negotiable one, as...

It depends upon your MBTI personality type. (warning: slightly tongue-in-cheek) If you're INTP, yes. You can know beyond doubt, with absolute confidence. You've already spent weeks scrutinizing your childhood memories, analyzing your life, and obsessively reading about AS. You match. Period, full st...

Hmmm... now that I think about it, I'm completely immune to "nails on a blackboard" (and in fact, used to do it all the time out of scientific fascination with the effect others claimed it to have, and always kind of viewed it as a superstition or mass public hysteria), but the 15.75khz sound from a...

^^^ omg. What he said! The "falling in love" analogy is perfect. I fall in love with my special interests. I had obsessive special interests long before I was even *aware* that others weren't the same way, let alone thought it was strange. There was no retreat or self-preservation -- other people ju...

Watch the videos of full episodes, not just his interactions with Paige. The dates show him on his best behavior, charged up, and focused on his mission. Watch the parts where he's interacting with the housemates. That's where it really comes out. That is, when you can actually find him. 98% of the ...

Not to mention, there's nothing that says Aspies can't be attractive, if not outright hot.

The fact is, even "unattractive" Aspies rarely need more than new clothes, a better haircut, a possible wax job, a tan, and maybe some nail work to go from 'hopeless' to 'hot'.

Lol. The plot thickens, and Aspie ingenuity wins again. Apparently, the producers wanted Bubba to win in the worst way, and did just about everything they could to get Paige to send Jeremiah home early because, as a housemate, he wasn't very interestering to them (the extroverted guys fought, partie...

You'll never get to Stage 4 (no longer an Aspie), because it's medically impossible. The closest you'll ever get, with lots of help from amphetamines or methylphenidate, is a point where doing the "normal" thing becomes a semi-automatic reflex. But don't kid yourself. You'll *never* get to a point w...
