A psychiatrist goes into his waiting room and is surprised to find that the lone occupant is a cow, whom he duly ushers into his office. "I've never had a cow as a patient before", says the psychiatrist. "What brings you here "? "I'm feeling very anxious", says the cow. "A lot of people I meet say t...

I've always thought that for a person on the autism spectrum to hear that job-hunting is all about networking is like if you told a paraplegic that it's all about running. I particularly have trouble with free-form networking events where it's just everybody standing around in a big room chatting wi...

On a job application, when you've been fired, say, 11 or 12 times.

and if you are asked in an online job application, "Have you ever been involuntarily terminated?" followed by "please list the employers, dates, and reasons" would you provide ALL of them (no matter how many)? If not, how would you decide which one(s) to omit? It's safe to say that this is a situati...

Sadly they seem to be almost all automated, these days. How about fire-watching in the US forests? From a couple of distant contacts I gather that's still a little more current. Those jobs are not as common as they used to be due to satallite survalence and "hands-off" forest management. However, F...

I'm particularly thinking about whether it is OK to mention it as a part of the answer to the question "Why have you been out of work for so long?"

Most sources talk about keeping a six-month monetary reserve in case of layoff. Well, I have been without significant income for much longer than that. Fortunately, in my case, my parents have quite a bit of money and have repeatedly offered to help me out and sent me money without my even asking fo...

I first read about this only a few days ago: ------------------------------ The term love-shyness was used by psychologist Brian G. Gilmartin to describe a specific type of severe chronic shyness.... Gilmartin had seven criteria for each "love-shy" man he included in his study: He is male. He is a v...

 My first ten years out of school were pretty uneventful -- I was steadily employed the whole time, quitting just once just to move to another state. Then in 1993 I was laid off -- and everything went to pieces. Since then, I have been fully employed in a professional capacity for a total of ab...
