Most of the time I have a neutral slightly negative facial expression but it does change when the emotion is strong. Can't fake a smile to save my life. Looks like when an Android tries to smile in sci-fi. If you see me smiling in a picture it because I truly was happy at the moment. |

IMHO For the vast majority of jobs social skills will get you further than intelligence. I'm sure there are some exceptions but even in my job (software developer) less talented but more social individuals win all of the awards and get the promotions even when they do less work. |

I absolutely suck at it. I walk alot and I honestly can't walk, chew and think at the same time. If I'm eating while walking I stop thinking until I swallow the food in my mouth. |

From what I understand NTs do this subconsciously while Aspies learn to do this as a skill that improves with practice. As a child I struggled but today at 42 I'm pretty good at it or at least at the major facial expressions. For example I know when my boss in angry but maybe not when a coworker is ... |

Personally I doubt there is a connection. Also I don't think there is an autism epidemic at all. In the past many people like me were never diagnosed with anything. Now more of us are getting diagnosed. The increase is due to better education of teachers and medical staff not vaccines or food. |

I can't socialize with people I don't know well unless I drink. I don't need to get drunk, a drink or two is fine. Otherwise I'm too aware of my discomfort and I don't say much. At work i usually take my breaks and lunches alone. Occasionally i will go with one of the few co-workers im comfortable s... |

There are LOTS of flavours, textures and smells that I can't stand: Flavours: -Eggs -Fish (Except Halibut which I love!) -Shellfish -Lamb -Veggies (the list I like is way smaller than the list I can't tolerate but I do love most salad veggies) -Mango, Papaya and most non-citrus tropical fruits Textu... |

My hand-eye coordination is horrible. I also have a poor sense of where my body is when I can't see it. As a result I constantly hit my arm off walls and door frames... I can ride a bike but don't have drivers license. Handwriting is not legible can type but not very fast. |

I can't fake smile either. As a result I'm not photogenic in the least. I smile when I'm happy but not on cue. |

My first computer was a Texas Instruments TI-99/4a. Me too! :D After that came my first PC - a Tandy1000SX. I had 16-colour graphics and nice sound while all my friends had CGA or monochrome graphics and the ear-bleeding PC Squeaker. I take pride in being the one responsible for Radio Shack Canada ... |

My first computer was a Texas Instruments TI-99/4a I received as a Christmas present when I was 11. By the summer I was writing my own games. I'm currently a software developer for one of Canada's largest banks. I'm grateful one of my special interest turned out to be useful. |

I think one of the fundamental issues that has to be addressed is that unlike race or sex or anything, there are real differences. A white man and a black man can do the same job equally, same with a man and a woman. But there are real differences between AS and NT. A lot of jobs involve dealing wi... |

Every job I see posted at my office has quotes like: "excellent communication a must" "excellent multi-tasking required" "must be a good people person" Etc... it might as well say "autistics need not apply" Ironically there's a blurb about our employee assistance program for disabled workers... |
