I remember being taught by my Dad that I should look people in the eyes when I spoke to them. And so I have always thought that I have done it. But then I can remember when I was Mum to a small child discovering that if I looked at her she would be happy, but that if I didn't look at her she would g...

Also, because I am very smart I do make an effort to try and figure out what motivates people. I analyse other's behaviour all the time. I have even studied body language (before I'd ever heard about ASDs). But apparently, it is still obvious to everyone else that I am functioning differently. Which...

Plus, it was a complete shock for me to score low on Simon Baron-Cohen's Empathy Quotient Test... I've always seen myself as overly empathic (though I now know that there is a difference between affective and cognitive empathy). I got 12 on that test! I took it a second time and scored 13 :? I alwa...

I always played games to learn about people. Winning or losing was irrelevant. I'd always be sure to win and then to lose to experience the full effect and learn the most. I could understand a character like that but Moriarty is more a comic villain. Well I respect your point of view. Although, I n...

I mentioned it because it´s a bit too much that not only the protagonist but also his arch-enemy and two other major characters treat life as a game in only six episodes. And as for motive I don´t think hunger for money is very good either, I´d just like something other than "because I felt like". ...

One of the biggest problems with Sherlock is this: Season 1 episode 2, we are introduced to Sherlock and learn he really doesn´t care about justice, to him solving crime is just a game. The killer in the episode has no clear plan to which people he kills, it´s just a game to him. Season 1 episode 3...

I think this is a great idea!! ! My questions ( am an NT parent of an AS child): Were you self-injurious as a child? Did you grow out of it and have the feeling fade away or did you come up with specific ways to cope so you wouldn't self-injure? If somebody intervened (such as holding your hands) w...

Az29 - I'm sorry you are having all this difficulty. I am also trying to get a referral on the NHS and i also had to see a community health nurse. I went with my husband and the woman just immediately got out a notepad and started asking for my name and age and stuff! I said to her, "Why am I here?"...

Thought I would just say hello, which seems to be the done thing. I am English, female, and in my 40's. I'm an artist and a web content developer. I had never heard of Aspergers until a year ago, when my daughter, who works as a care support worker for people with autism, rang me up and said she had...

Just to update you all on this, the second series is running here in the UK now and in episode two Watson specifically refers to Holmes as 'Aspergian.' And for those of you who haven't watched it, Sherlock Holmes on the BBC is set in the present day, not Victorian England, so of course he could be a...
