As for "why were you out of work so long", I would just feed them a lie. Or just tell them less of a lie, and say you were doing a terrible job of finding work and got very discouraged. There, you've sounded honest, and any boss who's worked at one company more than 5-10 years will feel sorry for y... |

The touchy stuff you grow into. I'm going through the membership process at just such a church. I much prefer a church that will let in people from all walks of life (including former felons and such) and welcome them with open arms. Many traditional churches have the fake feeling of a social club w... |

Therefore it was recommended that I have a notetaker in each of my classes so that I can get more complete and useful notes. Man I sure could have used one of those in school.. I couldnt read my own handwriting so taking notes was pointless I had to do without them :P I practically had to learn it ... |

Before I would just have decided that I wasn't trying hard enough and didn't have a good excuse so I needed to try harder. That's what I did with anything...I tried harder because I thought I was being lazy. I decided that I had to do squelch every problem one by one...social, academic, you name it... |

Food for thought. I think we should quit calling AS a syndrome, disability, or whatever and refer to Aspies as different in some distinct way. Wouldn't it be better if we were thought of as spatial thinkers capable of great advancements in society rather than people with disabilities? Gosh, wouldn'... |

I guess I'll dredge up another old topic, but I wanted to say that I was a full-time professional for a while and I still excel at the game. Some of the very best are thought to have Asperger's: Stu Unger http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=exchange&Number=6056032&a... |

I was going to reply to the quote below from another thread, but instead of hijacking the existing thread, I decided to create a new one: I was diagnosed at age 35; I'm 37 now. The diagnosis hasn't changed anything other than giving myself an understanding of why I act the way I do. However its noth... |

Someday, when I grow up, I'd like to be President of the United States. I'm gonna make the world a better place! I'll lower taxes, and I won't start any wars! I'll fix the Public School System, and I'll provide public health care! I'll improve disability research, and I'll improve our mass transit ... |

I agree that this is very difficult (if not impossible). |

A lot of you have said that certain meds helped you with your AS symptoms. What do you mean exactly? Look at themachine1's reply. I think he gives a very concise explanation of "why" they work. These are drugs that bring you out of "deep thought" brain waves by speeding you up. These drugs put you ... |

An Aspie can't act completely NT, no matter how hard he or she tries. That said, you should really try to get some of the more important things right because it will make life a lot easier for you and not doing so will hurt your potential. There is a compromise to be had. Things such as: Maintain yo... |

That "thinking out side the box" is theta brainwaves. Daydreaming is theta waves its where most the creativity in the world comes from. People with ADHD brain's are in a theta state often(yeah you have ADHD!). But the downside is ADHD kills work drive. You can come up with 100 good ideas but you fi... |

I really don't think you need to tell them when you're trying to get the job. I realize that honesty is a great policy but you don't have to tell someone everything about yourself in a job interview (nor is it expected). Withholding that type of information is not akin to lying...evading a question ... |

I'm self-diagnosed and 28 y/o and work in a well-paying professional job. Recently, I took phentermine for a few months (so I could lose some weight). I did lose weight but I found out that I was very task-oriented at work. I took the drug for a few months and then I quit (prescriptions only last so... |

Well, this is my first post...so I'll shoot at this one. I really believe that a lot of Aspies are working well below their potential due to the fact that most entry-level jobs require lots of detail-oriented work, multitasking, and the ability to process and execute directives. My suggestion: Find ... |
