I do know some people in Wales who are more impacted by their autism and are on a jobcenter benefit where they are not expected to apply for jobs. From what they've said they can do a little bit of small jobs while on the benefit. There are also some people who are expected to do some job searching,... |

I used to work at Publix many years back and there is another department to consider that is its own thing: Dairy department. The guy in my store was responsible for stocking the milk and other items in that area. It seemed like a good position for someone with ASD as long as they could tolerate the... |

You don't really get to decide if you are going onto disability or not. You end up applying for it or having someone apply for it on your behalf either if you are totally unable to work, or you have been trying to apply for lots of different jobs over the years, and either can't get them, or can't h... |

I tried to get into the special ed field around 2012 and 2013, but was getting drive by autism diagnoses the whole time, and was told that I shouldn't be working, and if anything I should be getting therapy and disability rather than working. The feedback I got was that the other staff at the school... |

If you receive a lower SSI benefit because you are living with relatives or roommates, you might be eligible for a larger amount of food stamps. In general the SSI program was intended to cover your food and some of your housing expenditures. However, they assume you either would own your own home a... |

Well Fos11 if you are trying to not be a loser, suicide wouldn't solve that problem. You'd be losing out on the positive aspects of your life. The activities you enjoy doing, the food you eat, the scenery in your community, your friends, your relatives and so forth. Perhaps some of the things you en... |

There are probably some things about your life that you would enjoy even if you weren't that happy about the type of job. What is more important to think about, is this a job that you can do, and if you can do the job that it doesn't take a toll on your health. If the job makes you think you are a l... |

I feel like I usually need 10 hours of sleep, sometimes end up with 11 or 12 hours. It feels like I have an incredibly high amount of REM sleep as it feels like I do a lot of dreaming over night. If I get less than 10 hours of sleep, I usually will try to nap if thats possible, and often can pretty ... |

The unskilled jobs often can be very difficult for autistics, like they wanted me to be able to move merchandise from a box to a shelf very quickly. Other times it could be very high demand of social skills, like with customers being really difficult to work with. There are probably some unskilled j... |

I don't think it would be societal collapse, but likely another downtown will be used to reduce the living standard a little more, sort of like how 2008 was used for that. Climate change is the wildcard that could really mess up society if people have to start moving in large numbers or if farmers h... |

That is unfortunate that your country is kicking out 20 year olds. A lot of people end up homeless because they can't stand living with their parents anymore and leave. Though the conditions the homeless face vary greatly. In some countries the homeless can only live on the street, others its massiv... |

I've heard Switzerland has a very different mindset of the welfare system than in the rest of Europe and in the US. The expectation is that family will take care of extended family members, including grown children, siblings, etc. and that if one tries to get welfare benefits, they will require the ... |

Yes definitely get it as it could help you be able to get an exemption from the new work requirements for food stamps. However, I don't think you should disclose it on a resume or cover letter when applying for a job as the employer might be afraid of paying extra for health insurance or could be ri... |

Its going to be most common to either be getting by on being supported by parents or getting welfare/disability benefits. Most autistics are not able to find work, and many who find some kind of job can't meet the social or other demands of the job. For example, warehouse work might not be socially ... |

It would be helpful accessing vocational rehab supports or other disability benefits that might help you with working and also could compensate if you are only able to work a little bit, or have an extended period looking for a job. |

It is possible to get disability benefits with autism, though it will probably involve a detailed evaluation of the specific traits that you have that prevent you from working, eg. meltdowns, anxiety, problems with communication, manual dexterity etc. The process probably will include some consultat... |
