I am happy to report that in my daughter's elementary school, bullying and teasing is not tolerated. In fact, students are encouraged to be accepting and helpful to kids like my daughter who have autism, or who have mental disabilities. In fact, my daughter, due to her quirky personality and humor,...

MrXxx: thank you very much for this, I think my son has the advantage at the moment that he is one of four with an asd in his class and they all support each other. We were very luckly to get him into our local school as it is a mainstream school that specilizes in asd students.

That is really nice to hear, as I was bullied, I was really worried for my son who was diagnosed 6 months ago would be to.

Thank you for sharing. :D

I personally find that I am over emotional, most certainly not less. Sometimes I get an emotional reaction to something that is too strong, more than others. I have seen this happen with other aspies to, some children I have worked with will show regularly emotions that are greatly heightened, like ...

My earliest memory was from when I was just under one, I can remember sitting in my cot playing with a toy that was strapped to the bars. It had a mirror in the middle, a pink and blue ball you could spin in the lower right corner, a red and yellow cylinder under the mirror you could also spin, a ra...

Live with spouse/partner who understands you. This one for me, been nearly married for 12 years now and we are both aspies and have two kids, the first already diagnosed and the other is just starting diagnosis.

If you find the right person it can work wonderfully. :D

I love winter, cold and dark. I also love winter, cold and dark, but I hate the summer, I might feel happy due to more light but I don't like the heat (yes I know the UK does not get very hot) but any thing above 15C is too hot for me. Also my eyes run in bright light, so I need to always where sun...

In any case I don't see how anyone is able to say with any certainty when the symptoms of AS should manifest, given differing severity, character, environment and experiences. This is very true, it will depend on so many factors and one very important thing, WHO is picking them up, staff in schools...

I have not read anything. But I would say to get a accurate answer, would be in this country 12 - 16 year old due to "social communication" been more important at "secondary school". While primary school would be more playful. Here in the UK according to The National Autistic Society - it usally ap...

My son was diagnosed with aspergers just before his 9th birthday. He had some signs earlier in life but it was not till 7-8 he showed more signs so he could be diagnosed. I believe I read somewhere that Tony Attwood said that onset for aspergers is common between 7-8 years, I know I read it in more ...

Another way of looking at it is traits that do not disappear when other factors are changed. To be autistic you do not have to have other family members with it. I don't know where this idea came from, genetics don't have to work that way. Generally autism is due to the way the brain works, so brain...

I think there are multiple causes, genetics, brain damage, toxins, environment etc. I think naturally autistic means things you cannot change, for example toxins can be stopped and most traits can disappear the same with changing the environment. I disagree that brain damage can cause autism. But I...
