Five years ago, I never actually said hello. I'm not great with forums. I forget they exist because they don't have real-time response. So, I'm saying hello, now. Five years ago, I joined this site because it was hinted to me that I am likely Autistic. I hadn't had a diagnosis back then and I still ... |

I would say "changing my stimming patterns" is a very good description of what I do from situation to situation, depending on whether or not I am in public. I am so aware of the things I do, whether they are random or I realize I feel the need, in the moment, to stim, because of being forcibly made ... |

I read that book years ago, but I should read it again. When I read it, I wasn't sure what applied to me and what didn't. And I didn't have much understanding of myself back then either. I do agree that it is a spectacular book. |

I am currently in a life rut. I think it's because of various undiagnosed or untreated (or both) conditions that cause me to be inert. So, I feel very depressed. But rarely do I think of suicide these days. I find that I am lost in the past for various reasons. And I know i am always stuck there bec... |

This thread is really good timing for me, because I just got attacked pretty hard by a few people on another forum for being self diagnosed. One of the people discrediting my diagnosis was someone who also suffers from AS and I don't understand that at all. She's from the UK though and probably doe... |

I spent two decades not knowing what ASD or stimming was. So, that was pretty much hell. I would say that, now that I know what is classified as stimming, I can control it, but cannot stop it. I pretty much stim all day long; body rocking, hand flapping, meowing, mental or verbal echolalia not assoc... |

I knew I was different in elementary school. However, when you are selectively mute and unable to express emotional pain in grades two and three, it's hard to get the point across that something is different about you to the people that matter (like parent, teachers, and other staff). |

Thanks, Kjas. That's the answer to everything; start where you are most comfortable. I like it. So, I know where I'm starting: the art forum! I did read the first post in the blog, Psychegot. Just that post calmed a lot of really crazy feelings I had toward myself. I appreciate it. Thanks for the we... |

Hi. You know how all of this Autism stuff is sorta new and all that? Well, what do you do when you spend the first twenty-one years of your life knowing you are different but no one seems to do anything about it and you can't figure out what's wrong with you? Then you get told your kid brother might... |
