Yes... sort of. I was genuinely interested in him as a friend, and we went to a pub and later a cafe and talked and talked for hours... and did it again. I had a really great time and he was and is a very interesting person to talk with, but he just did not interest me as anything more than a friend...

If it hurts you to see him with another girl happy, you're not his true friend, sorry. Only when you'll be genuinely happy about his happiness you can say he's your friend. I don't think there's much truth in that. People can't help their feelings when they have them towards friends of the opposite...
