EDS is rare. Statistically, the determining factor is the EDS. If someone has EDS, there seems to be a pattern of them also being autistic. It's not that autistic people in general are more likely to have EDS - if that were the case it would not be a rare disease. The full genetic connection is very...

When I was evaluated by a geneticist for EDS (which I have), I mentioned, 'oh, by the way, I'm autistic'.

She said, 'oh, I thought there was a high chance you were before I met you'.

Apparently it's a pretty major comorbidity with EDS.

Well, I'm mailing off my application for GRE Accommodations today. Boy is this stressful. I have pages and pages of documentation, but I'm terrified they will think it's not enough and will send it back for more. I don't have time for more. I need to take the GRE this fall. But I have so much proof...

I agree to a poll, but I think you should add an option for those who switch between functioning levels.

I'm mostly high functioning, but when I go nonverbal, I don't think you can call me high functioning then.

NIMH's abandonment has to do with research, which means it is unlikely to filter down to clinical practice anytime soon.

True. Haha, I realized that after I posted it. But still, it's significant. I do agree with a lot of the DSM's definition of autism though.

I mean, if they're abandoning it, then that's a pretty telling sign.

Aspies, autistics, people with Asperger's/autism. It's starting to look all the same to me.

Does selective mutism go along with catatonia?

Because when I shut down I can go catatonic, but if I try to stave off the catatonia then I lose speech.

I have been experiencing a weird symptom when under stress. It's been going on for about a year now. When I get stressed out, over-stimulated, or pressured, I lose the ability to form words correctly and speak well. Sometimes I can't get words out at all....other times I can get words out but I keep...

Nope.

I had an obsessive-compulsive period concerning that. It's irrational; unless you do something TERRIBLE that directly affects the Alma Mater, you're fine.

I have a theory that Western culture has adopted some of John Locke's ideas of tabula rasa and applied them to psychology in ways that are harmful to non-NT's and encourage base and discriminatory behavior. Tabula rasa is the idea that all "men" are created equal, and differences are mostly account...

I don't know if mine are tics!

It's really odd....I will just be sitting here doing something and all the sudden I have this spasm that turns my head and makes me wince....

I can't stop it. So I'm not much help because I have no clue. Oh well. Sorry.
