Wow, I wish things like "experience autism" existed in more places. What you have is excellent, and would remain so even without changes. However here is some input of things you might want to try including. Some of them I imagine would be quite difficult to replicate, but I'm just tossing ideas ou...

I know this will sound strange but have you ever seen Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes (1984) starring Christopher Lambert? When I was watching this movie it occurred to me how much the character was like me in the he was brought into this alien 'NT' world only to be looked down up...

These are fantastic ideas!! !! WOW. Thank you! As far as torturing the children, well, my son is tortured every day. He is such a hero to me because he walks into that school every day with a smile on his face and tries so hard to do it all right. I honestly don't know how he does it. Around Novembe...

That's a very cool idea! I need to research some cultural things and figure out some role plays. Actually reminds me of some of the "living history" places, like Williamsburg, Va. The "actors" can only talk about things that happened as of the date in history that Williamsburg was being founded. If ...

Thanks for the encouragement and the suggestions. I forgot one activity. I printed pictures of kids faces but I cropped out everything below their eyes. I show the picture of just the eyes up and ask the group if they can tell me what emotion the child is having. The answers are all over the place! ...

I have learned from reading here that folks on the spectrum really don't want to "be like NT's". I started really thinking about that. So much of the therapy my son does is to help him "act more typical". I don't think it's wrong to learn how to be as socially appropriate as possible. However, it oc...

LOVE the idea of the listening center. Awesome! XBox 360 uses the body to play the games. This provides not only exercise for a group that tends to avoid it, but helps develop gross motor skills, balance and other skills that many kids on the spectrum lack. The games would be educational and physica...

Hi ! It's me again. Well, the nonprofit I founded, A Special Space, Inc., has a mission to open a therapeutic childcare and development center for children with autism and other special needs...along with NT's since inclusion is considered mandatory. Anyway, I found out today that we will be able to...

What is the answer for kids who are non verbal? Locally there are aides who tell parents some of the stuff going on but shut up during investigations because they are afraid of losing their jobs. There must be some solution.

After some of the stories of kids with autism being abused by their teachers came out in the news these past few weeks, I wrote an email to one of my state senators asking for legislation to put cameras in the special needs classrooms. I know most people participating here are HFA or Aspergers but I...

Ive been researching the cards and talking to a few law enforcement folks I know and there is one big concern. If you have that in your pocket and reach for ir cops will think your going for a weapon! That could go very wrong. Any other thoughts on easily viewed signs? What about a bracelet?

These responses are really great and really helpful. No 2 people are alike so different responses are fine! Actually, they help a lot because helping first responders understand these differences is really important. Do lights/sirens bother you? If you were approached by law enforcement, would it ma...
