My trans son was not officially diagnosised asperbergers until 14 (even though I knew from age 7) because he did well in school and everyone thought he was just shy. He came out as trans at 15. I had the same worries; couldn't it just be the ASD? He didn't follow the "typical" trans route, I discove... |

I know it sucks but please give them time. When my trans son came out to me almost a year ago it was such a shock. I think for parents of a child on the spectrum it is even harder since we don't know what is or is not spectrum related. In fact I came on this board to ask others for help in leaning t... |

I have always been more comfortable around guys than women, I am a professional woman over the age of 40 & I don't wear any makeup, live in shorts and tee shirts (yet I have never been a tomboy) I have never doubted that I am a hetro female. How do I know I'm a woman? Can't really tell you, it j... |

I think Cleveland Ohio and Buffalo NY have a pretty active trans groups. We are in northwest PA (so close) and while there are problems it is getting better all the time. Heck in the county next to us it is illegal to refuse someone access to bathrooms that match their presenting gender |

techn0teen, I'm so sorry you are going through this. As a parent who's child came out as transgendered recently I hope this can help. It is a loss of what we knew (or thought we knew) to be true. (My child did not express anything like you did growing up. I had a girl who wore heels, make up and fus... |

I had myself troubles, feeling well as woman, but later I simply realized that its not the body, that I have troubles with, but that social habbits that you get expected to know and mention by others. So it was that "but as a girl you have to lile this and that, and to dislike this and that, and yo... |

My 15 yr old recently came out as transgendered. It has taken a while for me to process/accept (and I considered myself very open minded~who knew!) I found the book "Trans Forming Families; real stories about transgendered loved ones" VERY helpful real essays by those who have gone through the trans... |

I am the mom of a 15 yr old (born) daughter with Aspergers who has disclosed she (he) is transgendered. I have been struggling as this does not match the kiddo I have known (VERY femm!) and a part of me kept wondering if it was the ASD and not trans. It has been very helpful for me to read how you i... |

So my 15 year old (born) daughter has informed me she is transgendered and wants to become a male. While I am researching this in the trans world (and becoming much more educated) I'm also wondering if this may be an Aspergers thing? I know children on the spectrum often feel like they "don't fit in... |
