Globetrotter's comment about labels made me remember that I did the same thing. When my son was learning to put away his clothes I labeled each drawer...it was a huge help to him...doesn't even have to be limited to drawers, could label shelves, etc..anything you want. I am strongly considering doi...

To be more specific about being specific; you might try just asking her to pick up one particular type of thing and put it/them in a specific place. For example, ask her to pick up her doll clothes and put them in the red bin, or whatever is appropriate in your house. I usually offer to do team wor...

I'm not a parent myself, but would like to be. One thing that springs to mind is that AS kids are likely to need specific instructions on HOW to clean a room. "Clean your room" can easily be too vague for the child. I generally break it down into categories. For example, put your books on your book...

My husband and I have a six year old with mild Asperger's. Getting her to do most things is like pulling teeth. Any recommendations on getting her to clean her room? Edit When we have her clean here room we give her specific instructions. We tell her to put her books on her book shelf. When that is ...

No worries. catrig, don't let the people on this thread get to you. I don't think they realise how inappropriate they're being, but I don't think they mean anything by it. What reasons has your husband given you as to why he has this imaginery girlfriend? I am truly sorry if I was being inappropriat...

I know nobody means anything by it. Thank you. We've been talking about our/his problems for a while. From what I have gathered he needed something he wasn't getting, and being unable to vocalize it he created somebody to support him. I was trying to be supportive of him. Usually I am pretty good ab...

No worries. I'm really not mad. My deciphering of internet jokes is broken right now.

Hopefully that doesn't happened. Between my husband and my daughter the apartment would be filled with catgirls and robots. I get the urge to draw randomnly too. Usually trees or abstract things that turn into pictures. I'm not really helping at all but I like your imaginary girlfriend and have the ...

No offense is taken. I don't believe he is schizophrenic. Apparently a common coping mechanism for people with social anxiety is to create an imaginary friend. He doesn't think she's real he's just really attached to her. We are seeing a therapist together, and we are going to start individual couns...

Thanks. I will try looking that up. Nikkirig and catrig, you might both get some insight by reading about the anima and animus in Jungian psychology. There's some information on line if you search for it. Also some good books on the subject, probably some of the best for those who don't know much ab...

Thanks for the advice. If I imagine up a boyfriend he'll probably give me more problems than the husband. If I can figure out how to capture Lexie I will send her your way. My dear, the following is what you might try: 1. You acquire an imaginary boyfriend. Describe the boyfriend to your flesh-and-b...

Thank you, I try to be patient and understanding. He and I actually had a conversation about how he was emotionally supporting himself through Lexie. I can kind of understand that. I think at this point she is causing more harm than good. I do realize that she is his problem, but when I ignored her ...

I'm not sure how you would classify it. It's someone he interacts with. It's something that is creating a wedge. She is someone he is getting emotional support from.

Imaginary g/f? Are you sure it's not just a fantasy girl friend? The latter is a lot less bizarre.

Why does it make you suspicious? Red herring? We have been talking a lot. We've been talking to each other when we are home on the couch. We also have been talking to a therapist together which is a lot of help. This is just completely outside of things I know anything about. He was trying to make m...
