Read around here before you take ANYONE's advice. I've noticed some people tend to be VERY negative and seem to always think the absolute worst about NTs. That's seriously inappropriate, and rather biased. I asked the same exact question as you on this board and was given rather poor advice-- stay s...

Mine always come untied. I usually don't tie them. I just put the laces in the shoes and wear them like that. They slip on/off easier that way. If I am doing something that would actually require my shoes to stay on (hiking, running, whatever), then I have to do a double-knot... and I don't use a "r...

Ugh. I'm not looking for conjecture.

That’s why a lot of Aspies disapprove of “Autism Awareness Month,” and a lot of others ignore it or are confused by it. The very purpose of it is to define us within the terms of the NT bias: broken, pathetic, a life not worth living that needs to be fixed so that we can be more like them. This log...

If you want it in a sound bite that an NT can easily digest, give up.

With all due respect-- NO!

The purpose of Autism Awareness Month is to counteract the very sentiment that you have intimated.

I do appreciate the link you provided. Thank you.

Anyone else?

Hello, I don't post a lot on this forum, but I do read it. I am starting this thread because I value your opinions on "What the public really needs to know about Asperger's." I write a blog that receives a fairly decent amount of traffic, my April post will be about Asperger's Awareness, and I plan ...

I got so angry when I heard the news saying about Adam Lanza having Aspergers, I'm like that's not relevant to the Sandy Hook Shooting so why say it. CNN has lost alot of respect from me as a credible news source the way they have been handling this. CNN never had my respect, but NPR certainly did....

What bothers me the most is that National Public Radio is perpetuating this stigmatism. Of all media outlets, I would have thought NPR to be the one that actually thinks critically enough to realize that books about autism in a teacher's home is NOT news.

I have not watched a single news broadcast about this topic. I just can't . Does that mean I don't have empathy? I am bothered by all the statements on hear that seem like the author believes he or she has the ability to know what was going on inside another person's mind. It's rude, at best. I know...

If a famous person, said, no, actually I'm middle functioning, there's a lot of things I'm not good at, I think that would do a lot of good. Coming from the other direction, Chris Murray might be a person who (erroneously) could be considered low functioning, but who's actually squarely middle func...

Since most of us on the spectrum are PDD-NOS, it's only fair ... Besides, we won't have to worry about our disability being cheapened by idiot NT's with bad social skills who think it's trendy to claim they have Asperger Syndrome to excuse their laziness... I think it's much better to be able to sa...

My dad has a serious medical condition and I worry all the time that he will die. If he runs to the store and takes a little too long, I worry tremendously. If he is doing something physical, I worry a lot, too. My mom seems pretty healthy, so I don't worry about her in the same way. What I worry mo...

WOW, I am glad I am not the only one who feels like they are getting "worse" (although I don't like using that word) since being diagnosed as an adult. I don't really like the dx, but at the same time I do. Classic case of ambivalence, I suppose. For example, I had never understood why it is that wh...

I am often told, "You are your own worst enemy." I want a vacation from myself, too. I get really, really depressed about this... problem is, it is me that makes me depressed. Psychologists have told me that anger turned inward is what leads to depression, and that idiom seems correct to me. In the ...

I deeply desire to be friends with my brothers, but they are so incredibly self-centered that they only use me and have no concern for me as an individual. I have 90% cut one of them off, and 99% for the other. This is due to them being very abusive (emotionally and physically). They are "users". Th...
