I had been exploring the idea of autism in my exes for years when the last one finally said to me: "Hell, girl, if I'm autistic, you surely are too, and a lot more than me... Look at this, and this and that". I was gobsmacked and started researching then...

from: http://www.edmontonneurotherapy.com/neurotherapy_treatment_autism.html Using QEEG brain mapping procedures to evaluate children diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorders, Dr. Michael Linden and colleagues at the Attention Learning Centers have identified four distinct patterns (phenotypes) of...

Fnord, always the same answer in this sort of thread, no?

I wonder what's the use, though.

I find this all very confusing and it makes me doubt again whether I am perhaps "just" an introvert... although I did receive a provisional diagnosis of being on the spectrum last week... I am capable of making eye contact (at least I think I am), I do not stim that much, and I do know when to shut ...

I was a tomboyish brat until the age of 9 or 10, although I calmed down considerably before that age, when I learned to read and devoured every book I could lay my hands on. In kindergarten and the first years of primary school, though, I was a rowdy kid, disagreeing with the teacher all the time, s...

I see what you mean... Starting relationships can make me especially confused, because I don't know the other person well enough, yet... So, when I feel the urge to end it, I don't know if I'm right or not to feel uncomfortable. If it will pass as I know the person better, or if I really have to ge...

Interesting... This is something I've always found remarkable about myself, my ability to learn new languages in no time and to perfect the accent in an equally limited amount of time. I taught myself Swedish in just two weeks, and my then Swedish girlfriend was astounded. Also, I am a Dutch native ...

That is horrible, Verdandi, female abuses infiltrating DV shelters :-( My ex partner is now coming back for more, trying to suck me back in. Lucky my knee still hurts, as a reminder of the physical assault that DID take place. And receiving a strong validation of my AS suspicions by a psychologist s...

Hi, I just had my first appointment with a psychologist who specializes in ASD/ADD. I had actually written a full 6 pages account of why I believe I am on the spectrum and how this is impairing me... I used this as a guideline, since the psychologist left it up to me how to proceed, but she asked ma...

This is all so depressing it makes me want to cy  First off, to notice that abuse is just as common in lesbian relationships -- the idea that women have a generally more gentle and understanding nature does not seem to hold true... Secondly, I am struck by the contradiction that seems to hold f...

I know this "we're giving second chances" thing by first hand. Somehow we are taught to be patient with other people, for obvious reasons. We often don't understand why do people things that upset us (or why upsetting things happen all the time). We can't anyway but we are at least taught to ignore...

Just last Saturday, I got physically abused by my partner for the first time, after 9 months of verbal abuse when she was drunk, and at least 3 serious attempts on my part to end it. She is like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: quite sweet (although very 'present' and demanding) when she's sober, but once s...

I'm into women - hope I can still post. I like my partners much older, too. Always have. Had a huge crush on my math teacher when I was 13 (she was 32), have been with partners who were respectively 11, 19, 21, 2 times 14 and 17 years older than me. Always felt more comfortable around adults, and I ...

Sometimes in connection with BPD it can be hard to really identify "a trauma", but it is rather a pathological form of upbringing. There are different types of attachment and one is "disorientated/disorganized attachment". This one is called per definition as being traumatic without a trauma in the...

I don't really know if it's innate or something I learned to help me deal with a lack of normal-people empathy. It's definitely common here on WP, though. That's something I'm wondering about, too. Is too much empathy a basic feature of autism (in some - apparently, we come in different flavours as...

Well, answering or finetuning my own question, then... I did read up on Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD, the "C" does matter) and I found it illuminating. Some critics have argued that it is just another name for Borderline, but then without the harsh connotations... I don't agree wi...
