because it hurts their 'quality of life'. http://www.alternet.org/news-amp-politics/1-wants-ban-sleeping-cars-because-it-hurts-their-quality-life That article doesn't seem consistent with the headline. What does any of this have to do with the infamous "1%"? The laws are being made by politicians, ...

It's in the interests of individual businesses to have high unemployment to make the employees position more precarious. Given that this is a business run society, we will never have full employment. Having a few people who are happy to be on (beneath) subsistence benefits, free's up the job's for ...

They don't lord it over me to my face. The people who pay via taxes may need it some day themselves.I do agree it should be a safety net and not a hammock. People are always resentful of taxes,I don't know anyone who gets excited about paying them. :D Perhaps this is an issue with propaganda. You co...

The best book I've read about understanding opposing political views is Jonathan Haidt's "The Righteous Mind". He's a liberal, moral psychologist who did empirical research and came up with some interesting conclusions that provide great insight into understanding why we view the world so differently.

I'd rather take the ten dollars freely given, than have someone lord it over me that they gave me a hundred dollars, but then I'm stubborn. I can see this, but it brings up the question of the value of welfare. Welfare isn't freely given. It's taken from other people via taxation. If you only want mo...

It's not how much you give, but how much you care that matters. Giving is not all about money. Giving is about love and caring. How much would Conservatives be giving if there was not a tax write off to be gained? You can tell by how Conservatives treat the poor, the sick and the elderly how much t...

That doesn't mean their needs aren't real, but if it's society's job to provide you with habitation, clothing, food and health care, what's the incentive to go out and work? Are you saying people wouldn't value work without external rewards? What are you doing right now? Your worrying about work no...

The time will come, where money shall find its end. its not a matter of if, but when. Necessity dictates change. So long as humans remain aristocratic by nature, this will never happen. I see no evidence in history that suggests that human behavior can change to the degree that would be required to...

I often have difficulty understanding extremes, and I am only trying to figure this one out (which I have been doing for a very long time when it comes to this issue). I think I have figured out the flawed thinking behind the "no one should ever own a gun of any kind" crap, and it mostly boils down...

Most people do not join the military because they want to kill and torture people. Why do they join, then? In the US, it's employment with excellent on-the-job training and a clear advancement path. Medical expenses are 100% covered, including for dependents. If you stay in for 20 years, you get a ...

Mark Levin's an example of what the U.S. needs: someone willing to walk against the PC wind, and say "this is enough; no more". Religion and rational thinking aren't mutually exclusive. There is no way to listen to that exchange and come to the conclusion that Mark Levin is anything but a pompous, ...

I am wondering what is the reason the vast majority of humans love to cause harm to innocent people? And more importantly: Why do they especially love to cause harm to innocent, ILL and DISABLED people? When you assign ill motive to those who differ from your moral philosophy, you inspire those aro...

It's not most businesses. It's a few really big businesses. Most businesses are not raking in crazy profits. Most businesses are struggling to make ends meet. Regulations tend to favor big businesses (anti-competitive) and hurt the rest. So you are saying that small businesses that are barely scrap...

To be honest, business regulation would accomplish much more in a much shorter period of time than social programs; but since most businesses would much rather let their employees barely survive than to give up a few pennies in profits, it will not happen in significant way. It's not most businesse...
