It took me years to realize that Christmas alone was WAY better than Christmas with NTs. On my favorite alone Christmas, I got up before dawn and took my canoe out into the swamps. A beautiful day. Now I have a husband who is blessedly unsocial also. We will putter, hang out in the hammock, take th... |

There are levels because there is care on offer and they actually diagnose aspergers. As a kid growing up in the forestry plantations in South Africa, there was zero diagnosis and zero care options. However, the remote places look after strange people like me so i didn't need care. I just ran around... |

By choice I am home alone this Christmas. Some people who know are trying to get me to take up offers to join them. Others are feeling sorry for me. While I wouldn't mind company of one person, my own company, youtube and forums like wrongplanet are just great. It is a rare privilege to be able to t... |

I just stopped going. Great coping strategy. I am a manager but more of a specialist manager rather than people manager. I have developed a suitable reputation of eccentricity and so people are not surprised when I don't pitch up for social events. When I was younger my coping strategy was to get co... |

Chewing the hairs off my hands and arms. I chewed all hair that I could possibly reach, which is to a point somewhere on the upper arm. It looked like I simply didn't have hair on my arms and hands. I also chewed the hairs off my knees and legs where I could reach with my mouth. I did this in public... |

One thing I find really incongruous about the USA is that as a country it can print money out of thin air (because the US dollar is the de facto global currency and the USA has the military might to enforce their dominance) but from many accounts, the people of the USA are descending into Third Worl... |

If not, I still see a practical difficulty because it is the police that arrest people. The time is long over-due for EVERYBODY to arrest criminals; Anybody who thinks that they need to RELY on solely the police to perform arrests is DUMB... Are you suggesting that some police should be jailed or a... |

Would prison officers be included in the category of "police"? If so, who would look after the jailed police? If not, I still see a practical difficulty because it is the police that arrest people. Arresting people is a prerequisite to putting them in jail. Are you suggesting that some pol... |

I am a Gnostic, so I don't know if I qualify as an invader? Please advise. Also, apologies for taking so long; I have been rather busy between 2011 and the present, but here I am. |

Nice to see a thread that I started being resurrected. My own genealogical studies expanded beyond my wildest expectations. I'm in that same range: definitely not a college professor! When people speak of "high-functioning" autism, they tend to think of people with an IQ over 70, and who have useful verbal speech, and who communicate at least fairly well most of the time. There is clearly a consistent view in ... |

Any of you guys have issues with noise filtering? Went for a rare meal out tonight and with background music coming from speakers in the roof and the general noise of others talking etc I find that I can't heard what people on my table were saying. I do seem to get the same with background traffic ... |

From the experience of people saying to me, "You aren't like them," and trying to explain the difference between High-Functioning and Low-Functioning Autism, I have been pondering on why there is the cognitive disconnect? Why should people find it difficult to understand the difference? I ... |

Two for under my head, two under my knee to prevent hip joint aches (has to be the exact right angles) and two under arm (that is extended and needs to be proper to prevent arm discomfort. I only sleep on my right side. Don't know why but can't sleep any other way. So, that is a total of 5-6 pillows... |

Very interesting coincidence. I think that most people in New Zealand have no idea about Aspergers/HFA. The general view is that all autism is the same basic thing. So wrong. Its not really worth explaining I find. I don't think its worse than anywhere else in the world though. Humanity is much the... |
