BirdInFlight, than you so much for your thoughtful reply. Hearing about others experiences during the age of perimenopause and menopause is so interesting and extemely helpful. Some comments, questions: - What is FSH? - For you, what is a panic attack? And how is a mini-panic attack different? I was...

I'm 46 with symptoms of peri-menopause (approaching menopause which means you haven't had your period for a year and will never have it again). I have hot flashes which usually last hours. I've always had anxiety but it's gotten much worse and even medication doesn't help much unless I want to sleep...

Hmm. I see patterns in people that make me believe they are autistic. I feel I'm accurate though I have no way to verify that. I view it as an autistic verson of gaydar. I don't really see patterns much otherwise, though I do notice things and like to take pictures of interesting patterns on the sid...

It depends on so many things. If I am already stressed out, who I am being social with (one person or multiple, friends, family or co-workers) and in what setting.

Right now I have a tolerance of about less than 5 minutes. But I can tolerate hours usually.

Autism. It's not a processing error, it's a different operating system.

Not better, just different. Unfortunately so many NTs look down on autistics and have given us such a hard time in general that it's hard to not push back on that negativity.

I live with my mom who is retired and though on the spectrum was never diagnosed. She is more verbal and social than I am. If we speak a dozen words in a day, that's cool with me. But not for her. I put my dog to sleep about 2 1/2 weeks ago and have been struggling a lot since then. I miss my dog Bu...

the point I tried to make but was ignored, was that some of us cannot help ourselves, no matter how much we may desire otherwise. I just attended the funeral of a group member who could not change their metabolism and so was morbidly obese, which killed this person. for somebody to suggest that thi...

This assumes you have an option... Many autistics are so obviously autistic that people see something is off right away. I once had a cab driver identify me as autistic after, like, a few minutes. Most people don't automatically say "autistic" when they look at me, but they sure as heck know I'm no...

My husband had neuropsychological testing down also. His IQ score was the mid 120s. When the psychologist adjusted for how poor he did on parts of the test, it pulled it down to 110. I was tested when I was a teen or so and had an above average IQ around 114. I was tested again about 4 years ago (a...

Yes, manipulation happens, they want reasons, they'll create one even if it doesn't exist. Sad but true. You have to watch your back and that adds extra stress. If their knives are out, they'll wait until you turn your back. I had been around other autistics before and didn't understand the frequen...

I disclosed my autism to my employer of 13 years and felt that that eventually led to my being fired so I'm leary of disclosing. However, I'm likely going to need to sign up with a temp service to get a job and I have a list of what I want in an assignment. Should I reveal that I'm autistic? On one ...

These are the two major reasons I want to pursue a diagnosis. I have tons of doubt and I'm really worried I'm mistaken and I feel I need it on paper to fully believe and accept it. (even though I know two people who work with autistic kids who seem to be pretty confident that I'm on the spectrum.) ...

Is it normal for an aspie to be so worried about what others think of you that you have a hard time "being yourself"? I know a lot of people on here don't. but I feel quite repressed by society and the people around me. I want to let it all out, and let my "freak flag" fly, but it's like I have a m...

Does it actually get better or do people just say that to make young people feel better? Based on what I see in this forum it does not get better. Anyone want to prove me wrong? It really depends on the person. For me, some things have gotten better, in that I know myself better now at 45 then I ev...

You should be proud, even if your brain does not function right, you are intelligent and you can put that to use. I may just be 13, I may not have it from your perspective, but sometimes certain people can be right, about certain things. I think every person on this earth has something that no one ...

Hints/Clues that I was autistic? - as a child my mom said I didn't want to be hugged, or didn't seem to know what to do when I was hugged. - people were amazed at how much I loved to read and how much I actually did read - my mom was concerned with how solitary I was and how few friends I had and th...
