I have volunteered at a hippotherapy clinic and the speech therapist (also a family friend) figured that I probably had Asperger's based on how comfortable I was with the horses but I often struggled with what I ought to do around the people.

Ever since I learned about synesthesia I've been very fascinated by it. However, until recently I'd only really heard anything about the more common forms such as sound to color. Now I'm beginning to wonder if perhaps some of the unique perceptions I have of my environment might be a form of synesth...

Feel better? Everyone picks on NTs, but it seems like NTs treat Aspies better than Aspies treat Aspies because I see too many snarky remarks like this one from Aspies. Sorry. It wasn't supposed to be snarky. I just got the impression that you were feeling kind of alone with your quirky eating habit...

I've never been upset by phones ringing though I do feel like I must answer or else. However, I am petrified to call people and often tend to get my mom to make as many calls for me as I can con her into making. Well, maybe con isn't the right word but it's something like that. This past spring I de...

I have quite frequently throughout the years wished I had been born a boy because I had a lot of trouble identifying with girls. Boys made more sense to me and I often squelched girlish tendencies because I was ashamed of them. I thought, for some unknown reason, that they were bad. In spite of how ...

The first time we mentioned that we thought I had Asperger's to my doctor he thought we were nuts. We came back to the next visit with lists of things, and my mom even wrote a commentary on a list of symptoms regarding how they each applied to me. He has now agreed to refer us to somebody who knows ...

I'm not necessarily a bad hugger. My friends say I give great hugs. But I don't think I'm a normal hugger. I've been nicknamed "Bonecrusher" because when I was younger I squeezed people way too tightly. And I very often give awkward one-armed side hugs because I'm just not sure how I'm expected to h...

I call myself a Christian because I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the One who takes away the sins of the World. Other people would call me Baptist because I grew up in a Baptist church and frequently find myself around other Baptists. I would not call myself Baptist because I cannot adher...

Sometimes I have this underlying longing to find somebody who can understand who I am and relate to me on a deep level. That's the kind of lonely that hurts.

There are other kinds of lonely that don't really bother me.

I also really like to be alone sometimes.

Hm. I'm fairly decent at eye contact unless I'm tired, cranky, or overwhelmed. I can usually sum up what someone else is trying to say even though I can't necessarily sum up what I'm trying to say. (I can, actually, but it can take me months of thinking it through before I actually get all the words...

I prefer my Ramen noodles hard and crunchy straight out of the package. I prefer raw cookie dough over cooked cookies. I hate oatmeal and I hate peanut butter but if I mix them together I can eat them. I still don't like it but I can choke it down. I don't like ketchup but if I mix large amounts of ...

I couldn't smoke. I can't abide the smell and if I get too close I end up coughing and gagging. A fellow who had been smoking (recently, I infer) walked past me today. He was about three feet away from me but the smell was still overpowering. I don't understand smoking. I can't see anything appealin...

I don't think I qualify for synesthesia, either, but I felt like Could relate because there is some visual connection to how I take things in that is definitely out of the ordinary. I've often visualized scenes taking place to music but nothing really significant. However, whenever I sing staying in...
