Hi, it is coming up to nine months since I first asked my GP to refer me for Aspergers. I'm in the UK. He did say he would refer me but sent me a letter saying his referral wasn't good enough as the Maudsley hospital in London wanted it to come from a pdoc. He wrote to my pdoc and it has all ground ...

I've never understood partying, or when people say 'we're gonna really party tonight!'. I just assume it means drinking alcohol in a dark room with loud noises. That's the literal sense but not the essence. That's what I don't get. When I was younger I sometimes went to nightclubs and would always e...

I'm having therapy at present and it is hard going. We are dredging up old memories in the hope I can face up to and banish them forever. Also, working on the idea that I am depressed because I buried anger instead of expressing it over time. Like I said it is hard going and I find that I just want ...

So I feel as if they are encroaching on my mind. When people are in my home it is like they are inside of me. I am agitated, super alert to their every move. If they stay overnight I can not sleep. And if I hide in the other room (which I do very often) I still cannot block out that they are there....

My wife invited her friend around for a coffee this morning, which is rare. I didn't like this so I hid upstairs till she went. There's nothing wrong with her but I get very agitated if unusual people are near me and even more so if they start patronizing me. Our dining room doubles as my office wit...

I asked my GP for an Aspergers assessment referral in December. He was no problem but took a few gentle prods to actually get him to do it from his colleagues though. Anyway, I got a letter from him today saying he tried to refer me to The Maudsley Hospital in London but they only accept referrals f...

I can really relate to this, especially people in front of me walking slow. Why should the pace I have to go be dictated by people ahead of me? I want to choose how fast I walk. And when you finally find an air pocket to squeeze past in your peripheral vision you can envisage them giving a stare. An...

I've had similar responses as people have mentioned although not angry. My GP was quite happy to refer me for diagnosis last year (still waiting though), but my Pdoc didn't think so as I didn't 'present' like I had it. Others have been nonplussed really and the subject soon gets changed when I try t...

Is this normal for Aspies to struggle with this? I find it hard to express feelings about literature or music beyond 'it's good', or' 'it's bad'. I'm currently doing a creative writing course and find that I just want to right things down in a very matter of fact way. Plus, we are expected to critiq...

Concur with all above. Personally I just want to be left alone. If I am in a job tell me what to do and leave me at it. I don't want to be part of any social circle, tried that and it doesn't work for me. Not to be involved in small talk beyond 'hello', and 'goodbye'. Just as long as I can support m...

Thank you for your helpful responses. It means a lot. I will make it clear he has been convicted of harming a child, I witnessed it. It was a hot summers day and he got drunk and started a play water fight with some kids in the street. It soon turned nasty and he grabbed a 12 year old who was being ...

Fifteen years ago my father in law told my wife (she wasn't then, she was 15) that he wasn't her father and that when he worked on oil tankers he used to take her mum on some trips and one of his colleagues got her pregnant. A couple of weeks ago at a birthday party he organised both of us, my wife ...

My GP said he would refer me early October. I went to see another GP the other week and my notes said nothing had been done so she suggested I contact the other GP's secretary. I did this and she very helpfully said she would chase him up and would ring me in a couple of days. She didn't. So I rang ...

Agreed! I remember a few years ago at work with two old boys who only talked about...work. One was a playground inspector and the other did a lot of work at the weekends putting football nets ups and refereeing. I stood by them trying to keep track of the flow of their conversation and I swear for a...

You know when you start a conversation about something you think is interesting and someone else had a better/worse/more interesting thing,in their mind at least. Anyway, what you said gets forgotten and you have to listen to them go on and on. This happened the other day. I sometimes go to a drop i...
