Definitely. The fire alarms made my public school years a living hell, especially in grades 1-6, where many of my teachers didn't understand my fear, and high school, where we had the loudest fire alarms in the city (Simplex 4040s, if anyone is interested.) I even remember screaming like a little gi...

For a long time my mom and dad have been trying to say everything for me instead of letting me talk myself. Even if I make a little mistake, my dad will sardonically say "OOPS!" for me in a very rude way. I really hate it, and my parents don't seem to care that I can talk myself. When we are around ...

My parents are always treating me like the black sheep of the family. I'm not a bad guy, but when I make mistakes, my mom and dad are always pinning everything on me, and acting as if I am always the bad one in the family. They even tend to ignore the Golden Rule: "Treat others the way you want them...

Strobes are required by the ADA, but animators don't have to obey the ADA. As a firefighter, I've heard tons of different alarm sounds. Everything from bells to buzzers to one place with a voice that says "There has been a fire alarm reported in the building." I'll have to look at the NFPA code to ...

Update time!

Yes, I am still K-O's main performer, doing off-season stuff for now, and the 2013 Brockton Rox season is getting closer. I have been having more fun as K-O, too!

I've noticed something whenever I would see a movie, TV show or cartoon that involved a scene where a public building was on fire and needed instant evacuation, or a school conducting a fire drill or some other building having the fire alarm pulled (often as a dumb prank), the signals for the fire a...

It seems ever since I became a teenager, my dad would want me to always be brave. Whenever I'm nervous he would tell me to cut it out, and it isn't easy because he often scares me to the point of my teeth chattering! (I have a very strict father with a real anger problem, and have had quite a few ni...

Knowing how fire alarm systems work helped me calm my fear of them. I also learned not all of them sound like buzzers, like at the schools I went to. The alarms I can usually handle really well are ones that use speakers or voice-evacuation instead of horns or bells. I was visiting a school a couple...

The high school bathrooms I hated. They smelled awful and could make me sick. Sometimes during a lunch period I'd have to sneak to another non-main restroom to use, otherwise I'd just hold it in. Elementary and middle school bathrooms weren't too bad, though...

This past August, I found a job that my Asperger's Syndrome is actually very useful in! I live in the town of Brockton, MA. We have a minor league baseball team called the Brockton Rox. Beginning in the 2003 season, they got a mascot: an anthropomorphic boxing kangaroo named K-O (the reason for the ...

Oh by the way, this is what the bells in the school I went to for kindergarten looked like: http://i423.photobucket.com/albums/pp316/wiley207/K-8/IMG_3004.jpg (Most of Brockton's schools had the habit of putting a bell next to each fire alarm.) Those bells sounded like THIS: http://www.audiomicro.co...

Yep, I've always been a fan of Tiny Toon Adventures AND Animaniacs. I can even recognize the different overseas studios they used on the shows! (Tiny Toons had some episodes animated by Kennedy Cartoons, which as a kid I thought looked pretty weird.)

Of course I enjoyed field trips in school. I remember in fifth grade, we went to see the U.S.S. Constitution boat in Boston. My mother chaperoned me on that one because she found it interesting as well, but all the other field trips, I didn't need/have any parent chaperoning me. My brother and I als...

Oh yeah, I remember high school being FULL of jerks. I always tried to stay out of it. I even remember during my high school senior year (which I actually enjoyed), I was trying to set a GOOD example to my non-senior friends there, unlike several of the other seniors there, Today, here in Brockton w...

Hmm, I remember the classroom I had kindergarten in had a fire alarm installed right inside it. And it was one of those older ones that sound like a buzzer with a red flashing light on the bottom. Ouch! (I'd describe the model number, but I don't want it to get too technical; I can just say it was a...

Heh, when I was in elementary school, nobody there knew about Aspergers' Syndrome, so some of the faculty thought I was strange. My third grade teacher used to be rather crabby with me, and it wasn't just their fire alarm giving me problems (as the school had no functional bell system, and still doe...
