I just found out about a mystery series because someone posted that they're free on Kindle right now. I haven't read any of them, but I did the "look inside the book" and the main character says he's autistic. The first book is called Darkness Once More . I'm going to download it anyway, a... |

It's mostly over up here. The area got between 26 and 30 inches. Still have power, so I'm good. But I'm now ready for spring. Of course the weather is saying more snow (only 1 to 3 inches this time) on Friday but another storm next Monday and they're not telling how much. Too far out and they're pro... |

I'm in northern MA. Usually once or twice a winter we get a huge nor'easter with a foot or more of snow. This looks to be two feet in most places. The cities are used to it, so the plows and sanders are going to be deployed later today and will keep going throughout the storm. Electrical service is ... |

It is not like a NT group where after being where after being validated people are hugging, kissing and crying. The monotone and "blank" expression is often still there. It more just very intense conversation where people are exchanging information and problem solving. It does not mean there is not... |

I'm less picky than I used to be. At least I'm willing to try more stuff out. You can always spit it back out, right? If you're by yourself anyway. If you're with people, maybe discretely into a napkin or make sure you take a very small bite knowing you'll have to swallow it. Tastes do change. I lik... |

The second meeting went really well. There were 14 of us. It was only supposed to last an hour and a half but we ended up staying for over two hours. We had a list of topics that we'd drawn up last month and we talked about more stuff we wanted to talk about since some people were there for the firs... |

You're over thinking and worrying too soon, DK. Relax, read all you can about Judaism. There are plenty of books. Use the library if you don't want to or can't spend too much. There are plenty of good online sites also. If you want to learn a little Hebrew (you can read transliterated Hebrew so you ... |

Next year when I have less on my plate, I may put out feelers to see if there is support for a group like this in my city. Please let us know how it develops in future and what issues emerge. Is there an organization there already? If there's already a GRASP group or support group there, it might m... |

AANE seems like a great organization. They're very good at trying to meet the needs of a very diverse group of people (ages, genders, orientation, and of course that all Aspies are different in their Aspie-ness :) ) This year they're experimenting with a couple of different types of groups. One is ... |

I've mentioned AANE (which now stands for Asperger/Autism Network) in a few posts. If you live in the area, they've started a 50 and over support group, which will be meeting in Watertown, Massachusetts, 50 Water St. suite 206, the first Monday of every month for the next six months. It runs from 7 ... |

"Get over it" comes across as very flip (no matter who says it; it's not just because it's family). And arrogant and dismissive of the amount of hard work it takes to "get over" anything. That being said, :) when it comes to fears, phobias, and the over sensitivities (to touch and other stimuli that... |

If you go, is there anything you can do different that will change the usual outcome? Maybe you could take the initiative and talk to other people first? Before you go, could you work up a list of topics you can talk about? Is there anyone there who might share any of your interests? And you don't h... |

One thing I like is when I miss an insult because I don't pick up on subtle barbs. Though sometimes I "get it" several hours or days later. But one thing I've decided, looking back, is that if I'd caught them when they happened, I'd have only lowered myself by retaliating. Why waste my time ... |
