Because of undiagnosed autism, my college record is horrifying, full of drops, withdrawals, Fs and incompletes. Despite this I am far above average in intelligence and academic ability. I want to continue studying but I'm finding that no reputable school is open to me because of my past record. I ha...

I am newly-diagnosed in my 40s and would like a good article to send to my parents and siblings. Something easy-to-read and about what asperger's is generally (they don't need to know "how to live with your aspie child" as I'm an independent adult). I haven't really seen anything here on the site or...

Thanks for pointing this story out, but don't expect Anderson Cooper and his buddies on CNN to be holding any town hall meetings over it anytime soon.

Forum: In-Depth Adult Life Discussion   Topic: Anyone's family "use" their diagnosis "agains

I am hesitant to "come out" to my often abusive family. On the one hand, the diagnosis might make them have to eat crow for always accusing me of being "immature", "stubborn", "the cause of all my own problems", etc. On the other hand, coming out to them could backfire. They could use it as ammuniti...

The sudden loss of interest thing can happen at any time during the early months of dating. It's too hard to say whether it is anything you are doing or just the other person changing her mind. I agree with what the other person said, that your remarks about being toyed with or becoming attached are...

Chloe33,that is not synasthesia; it is an olfactory hallucination. However, o.h.s are neurological issues like Asperger's, so there may be some connection.

A hobby could be anything you do regularly in your spare time - including walking watching tv. You could certainly find people who do those things. Have you considered trying to start a hobby? Anything you think is interesting or fun can be made into a hobby. Take lessons in something. Attend lectur...

Anyone here find yourself becoming more alienated from friends and family as time goes on, like into middle age? This is problematic because at the same time, it is more difficult to make new friends as you age. Does anyone else deal with this predicament? How have you managed it?

I'm also INTJ (actually equally T and F). Here is a page with a quick rundown on career choices:

You might also want to check out the Jungian personality test - MB was based on it.

Best of luck!

About the partying, many schools have "quiet dorms" or "study dorms" for students like you who want peace and quiet. I would suggest that you raise *all* of these issues with someone at the school (whoever works with incoming freshmen). They might have some accommodations. Good luck - I can imagine ...

It's "ads", not "adds". Isn't there some kind of grammar check for postings like these?

I'd like to get parents' recommendations for good book or articles/pamphlets on Asperger's. Something to provide family and friends who are not familiar with it. For some people a whole book might be a little much, so I'm also looking for shorter things - booklets or single pages of info. Has there ...

I'm just wondering what kind of discipline is supposed to be appropriate for older - teen and college-age - aspies who don't adjust to independent life. Have any of you ever resorted to extreme measures like throwing your kid out of the house or cutting them off financially? Is that considered an ac...

Hello Everyone, I am pretty paranoid about revealing personal info here on this forum, so I'll just say I'm female, middle aged, newly diagnosed (unofficially). I would love to have a more private way to talk, so anyone is welcome to message me if they like. I hope no one minds if I find them intere...
