Oh, puh-leez ... Having autism does not define my identity any more than does having dandruff. Here here Right, your neurology has absolutely nothing to do with how you turn out. It has zero effect on how you develop, on personality, on behaviour. My brain has nothing to do with who I am as ...

Identity politics poisons basic human compassion. People are individuals.

Ichinin's advice is good advice. As is getting an education. I got my first degree at age 36 and am now studying for a PhD. Getting an education changed my life around. I let many years pass me by. I love logic so study logic and evolution. These are obsessions which are useful to the world. Studyin...

I just wanted to mention that I am also in Newcastle and am trying to figure out if I'm really somebody with Asperger's. ... If you couldn't tell - I am finding this a little mind-blowing and confusing. Maybe I should try to meet some local aspies or even go and get an official diagnosis to help me...

My son, aged 9, has done something we have always called "pillow dancing" since he was just a few months old. He has only just gotten an aspergers/HF autism diagnosis (as I have I at 43!). He rocks his head from side to side when falling asleep. He'll sometimes do it in the car when he's tired. He s...

Prozac saved my life without a doubt. Had some side effects but they went away after a while. These helped me gain control of my life, express myself, be a good mother, co-worker, partner. I have been taking them now over 10 years. 20mgs daily and am very stable and people have no idea I have AS. I ...

leaving just because I'm - we're - not happy. In light of recent events though, I'm more scared than I was. Now sure if I am now just utterly deluded. Ah well, time will tell. Got to bite the bullet

Sooo...just about to leave my partner (1 week to go) when my son is diagnosed and then I am also diagnosed. I had a pretty chaotic younger life which stabilised dramatically when given prozac. I later met my ex and had our son. I guess I'm afraid now that the stability I enjoy is illusionary. I woul...

Thanks. I was wondering how you deal with inappropriateness on an as forum. I am always second guessing myself after a social interaction - and I second guessed the above as maybe being a bit overconfident...But of a hard thing to call in an AS forum. (I have a very mischievous sense of humour sorry)

Hi, my 8 year old son has been recently diagnosed with AS. In his assessment the Consultant, after speaking to me (when my boy wasn't there) about my history, basically said I had it too and should maybe think about pursuing an official diagnosis. I'm not sure if I'm going to do that just yet. I tho...
