Responding to the original post: It depends on why abstinence is encouraged. I don't like the idea of young people being taught that sex is wrong, sinful, etc. I think they should understand the risks and dangers though, of STDs and pregnancy. It's well-known that the most effective form of birth c... |

Abstinence should be encouraged because there are many physical and emotional consequences of sex with which a young person may not be prepared to cope. I don't know about that. Especially for boys, I think there are next to no emotional consequenses. This. Sex in and of itself doesn't have as many... |

I guess anything seems right-wing after I've been around far-left people for a long time. I guess though that WP reflects the US a bit more, and NationStates is very European (and the Americans that play it are worse, because they have to rant about how "disgustingly conservative" the States is). T... |

I wonder why WP is so right-wing...if it was NationStates everybody would have just had a circle-jerk about how laughable, unrealistic, and immoral to the poor that libertarianism is. So, because an idea you disagree with wasn't laughed off the forum you think this place is right wing? Don't claim ... |

Such as? I'd like some good arguments- the other website that I'm running this thread on (NationStates) is ridiculously left-wing. Okay, an example of psychological/social consequences of teen sex: Girl loves boy. Boy says he loves girl, they have sex, boy goes to school and brags to everyone that ... |

It's been a long time since I've followed up with this thread, but here's my reaction: @ruveyn: Get over your pipe dream. You got help from the government some way or another throughout your life. It's a shame I forgot that for a few years where I thought the private market could do almost anything.... |

Bosses think that autistics are ret*ds and it is profitable to fire autistics. If Bosses realize that autistics are geniuses Bosses will still fire autistics because Bosses don't like the competition. The same argument is used by the pro-AA people to show why we still need it- because bosses still ... |

It seems that contrary to popular assertion, extreme libertarian beliefs are moralistic rather than pragmatic. Only your morals are like those of an emotionally underdeveloped child. It is wrong that anyone would ever have the audacity to make you share your toys at any time and doing so will cause... |

What's the point of being conservative? That question doesn't even make sense. You determine your right/left political standing by examining you values and views are and how many of each fall in what category. The thing is, I can never let personal feelings intrude on my politics. I am not entitled... |

Problem is, there's a pesky little economics concept called "diminishing marginal utility of money". That's the justification for progressive tax rates- the rich are less efficient with their consumption, so to boost consumption and therefore the overall economy, it is redistributed to those who wo... |

that however is only because of lacking sex ed at a proper age, abstinence can easily be mentioned and explained in sex ed but it cannot and should not replace it. I don't think anyone here is advocating replacing it. But some people (on forums at a game that I play) say that even encouraging absti... |

I only really see American men on the Internet advocate the kind of libertarianism you speak of. Most of them are autistic and middle class. I think those are influencing factors. That's really interesting- we could investigate what proportion of libertarians are on the spectrum. I guess the lack o... |

Star Trek is a left-wing utopia of sorts- all needs taken care of, no inequality, etc. It is fiction. There never was a society like that and there is not likely to be one, ever. ruveyn There is a debate going on about whether we'll ever be in a post-scarcity economy. A good number of people say ye... |

So using what is happening now with Ben Bernanke and the Fed, wouldn't the flood of money be better left saved? Since it would prevent inflation? And while I no doubt agree full employment would be reached, what quality of jobs would those be? Inflation rates and interest rates are already very low... |
