The only time I don't look awkward is when I am drunk. Come to think of it, that's about the only time I'm not socially awkward, either. I don't really drink anymore. Perhaps that is why I don't really have any friends anymore, either  If you photograph better when drunk then photographing... |

I'm just anxious to get a job so I have some structure around which I can do other things. I just graduated and I want to have things settled so I can deal with other things as they come. I really have alOt of trouble managing suprises. When I was little, I used to get upset at every unexpected sit... |

Do you mean I should not follow the "unspoken protocol" my friend told me about. he told me that is how it is done sometimes... I just don't want to lose the opportunity Lastly, i don't mean t... |

What sort of finance professionals are you looking to connect with? I used to be a quant on Wall Street and am now Chief Scientist at a retail bank. |

On another note, I find I frustrating that I am in this suppliant position, and the employer can just do as he pleases, Yet I have to be "respectful" of his time yet he can ignore me without the extending any courtesy by acknowledging my time is valuable as well. You need to not take it so personal... |

Great post. I think people on the spectrum that can turn their itch into a profession can really open the doors of possibility. I also really like your perspective that NTs can be "trained" to learn some of our traits in the same way that we have to learn some of theirs. |

I don't mind asking for them, but I agonize over the uncertainty of what someone will say. Over time I just accepted that so long as I choose people that I trust and that are good to me the references will be fine. At this point in my life I have also given references for people, and I will refuse g... |

Sounds like a great idea. I see a lot of people who are looking to make this leap but are afraid of the uncertainty. |

Agree regarding the perfectionist answer. If you answer with something insincere, a good manager will see right through it. Stargazer's approach is good too -- illustrate that your are aware of a weakness and then discuss how you overcome it/manage it. Another one I use is that I don't have the grea... |

These are: "What are your strengths and weaknesses?" (I'd recommend having at least 3 of each that you can discuss) @stargazer43 gave really good advice. One thing I would add regarding the above is be careful when you talk about your "weaknesses". If you are too open or honest about this, you will... |

[S]o I eventually found that the only boss that I could work with is, well, myself. I became an entrepreneur. @creativeaspie I have followed a similar path as you regarding trying to act "normal" versus just being myself. I've struggled with that most of my life, and it's only recently that I've re... |

...not very productively though. My home is full of too many distractions and what SHOULD be a simple task is taking far too long from procrastination and lethargy. What I found is that for me to break out of that cycle and become productive, I had to assert my need for solitude. I've done that bot... |

@thejamieturner, Thanks for the encouragement and the resource. Looks like most of the work is made by family and friends though! Good luck on your mission. There are certainly a lot of people who could use career counseling. It's great to hear that people are taking the steps to follow their passio... |

I have similar AS traits in terms of dealing with people. I've learned that the best thing for me is to excel in my job and people will put up with my idiosyncrasies. But I work in engineering and science, where people expect people like me. I do think cooking is an area you should explore (since ch... |

It would be helpful to know what level of education you have (degree/major) and what specifically you do in education. Why are you looking to leave that field, and how are your social skills? What type of cooking do you do? There are a number of people who have been able to get book contracts after ... |

Great to hear that people are pursuing their passions/interests. Do you do this full time or is it a side-project? |
