Were it not for my devotion to stray cats, I guess I wouldn't be here. So I set out to keep them alive and they ended up keeping me alive. :D Cats are the miracle drug lol. I, too, am a child of Bast (you have her as your avatar, I have her tattooed on my left shoulder) and am fostering two beautif... |

When I say "normal" family, I mean one where they actually love their children, adopted or not. THAT, to me, is normal. The situation I grew up in after age 11 was anything but normal; I've never heard of a mother telling her child that "unconditional love is BS" unless that moth... |

My adoptive mother took out an insurance policy on me and forged my signature. She named herself the beneficiary on the 50K policy, never told me about it until I was back at home after the birth of my daughter. She then turned around & asked ME to pay the premium while planning with the rest o... |

"...severe and repeated bullying can precipitate the clinical signs of PTSD in children with Asperger's Syndrome and a fear of physical injury through bullying is often reported by children with Asperger's Syndrome who are anxious (Russell & Stronoff 2004) The person can have intrusive mem... |

But like I said, I don't have the financial resources to afford a "supportive environment". I post stuff on FB, but nobody is really there for me if I succeed at anything. What was lost and can't be retrieved was family, a sense of belonging, and my self worth. I desperately want parents, ... |

I should be worthwhile, full stop. But how to deal when you know you aren't? No family; friends who will talk to you, but if you find yourself homeless (as I have dozens of times in the past), are unwilling to let you move in..? Worthwhile people have support systems, worthless people have state pr... |

People with AS can develop PTSD. And we are actually especially prone to complex-PTSD because of our constant bad experiences in social life, such as bullying. But complex-PTSD itself can mimic AS too and it can cause all the symptoms you mentioned. The question is if the bad experiences made you d... |

I'm sure I have both, yet everyone close to me absolutely INSISTS that I "only" have PTSD. Uhm, no, PTSD doesn't lead to being in your late 30s and unable to have a romantic relationship that lasts longer than a few months. It doesn't make you have a screaming fit when you're accused of so... |

I've sought out casual sex out of desperation for touch (huzzah for Craigslist). If it got to the point where the best I could get was a massage or a haircut, I'd liky just end it. Life would be pointless, then. |
A dog would. Dogs look right deep in your face, whereas a cat isn't much aware of more than your hands. [\quote] Totally untrue; my cat Licorice always knew when I was hurting, and would sit with me and purr. I guess you're a dog person. I find dogs way too needy; the... |

I would love to get a couple cats, honestly. I think having roommates is the closest to people I can be; I like going out and window-shopping, whatever...but I've found that going without physical touch eventually causes me actual pain. I was single for a year before this disaster of a relationship ... |

You might be doing incredibly well. Aspergers is an invisible disability. Don't give in to shame, go with what you really know about yourself.
What I "know" about myself is, desperate as I am to have some sort of family, the best I will ever have is pets. Animals have always loved ... |

My adoptive family completely rejected me after my adoptive dad died when I was 11 (I'm 36 now). They e made it clear that I am unwelcome in their lives, and have even gone so far as to convince my son's adoptive family that I'm "dangerous and unstable; violent tempered" (meltdowns). Frien... |
