http://www.guardian.co.uk/weekend/story ... 03,00.html

absolutely fascinating what goes on in a brain!

Are here any people here who feel they are math savants in this manner? That is, people with seemingly magical calculation abilities who see numbers as shapes or hear them as sounds etc.?

Looking for a good bike right now (suggestions, anyone?). Are you in the US? Suggestions depend heavily on your budget. From the sound of it though, you'll probably want a reliable, comfortable bike that doesn't cost a fortune. I'd look at a hybrid. See "young_fogey"s post. For example, see: http:/...

I always feel as though bicycles should come with shovels fitted as standard equipment - handy for scraping up all the chunks of flesh I left on the roads over the years....... ok, yea, that part I can do without! If you saw the abuse I've done to my arms and legs, you'd cringer. Oh yea, and my col...

Wow, this all sounds familiar. Great link, btw. thanks. As a baby/kid, my parents said that I always had to see everyone else go to sleep before I would sleep. Things haven't changed much. My wife's on an early schedule so she goes to bed at about 9pm every night. I usually join her and talk but it'...

Hey, I know exactly what you're saying. I had a very similar experience on a beautiful day, cruising along in my convertible, top down, blasting the album "No Talking, Just Head". I mean, a lot of this stuff is nasty and dark, but just something about the entire experience put me on this surreal hig...

You really seem to be going through a low, though your most recent post sounds better than before. That's good because you really seemed to be down. I too have felt the way you describe, particularly when I was younger. Having that helpless feeling and not being able to talk when you have all these ...

Hah, just got back from a ride. Beautiful winter day here, around 55F. I put 5,000-10,000 miles/year on the bike. Now that I'm an old geezer, I have to train especially hard to compete against the young guys on the race circuit. Biking's always had a great appeal for me. When I was just a few years ...

Yes! I'm kind of a weird neat freak. My "laboratory" is a complete hole. Way too much stuff left out, things taken apart and awaiting the trash bin or proper storage. On the other hand, I keep all my CD sorted and printed little labels for the cabinet. My electronics components are likewise stored. ...

It's all mindblowing. I grew up along with personal computers and have gone from a couple megahertz Atari computer with 64k memory and tape drive to couple gigahertz Pentium / Athlon computers with a gigabyte of memory and multiple hard drives. That's in a period of about 25 years. The embedded proc...

My tastes go with mood, but typically go with coffee, flavored with sweetened creamer. I don't like bitter edges. For me, coffee often demands a pastry of some sort, so when I want to diet, I cut out the coffee and along with it goes lots of other empty calories... Meanwhile, I'm brewing a pot of ha...

oh, i feel so old at 40! But I know at least one of you is older than I  I see myself as a kid, but I guess it's the concept of a kid as a person with an innocent (ok, naive) view of the world and an ability to extract joy from really simple things. Funny side story - when my wife and I wer...

Happened just now at work - attractive girl in her 20s joined the staff and warmed up to everybody in the office except me. I tried to talk to her and got frozen out. I've noticed things like that quite a bit too. My wife introduced me to a bunch of other teachers at a party. When she introduced me...

Welcome! ...my life seems to be defined by the loneliness I feel. Friends have always been few and far between, and I recurringly feel that I am an outsider to the rest of the human race....it has only been recently where I have had the wonderful enlightenment of finding that I was not the only one ...
