Out of curiosity, do you already have a transcript of this written up? I'm trying to create a closed captioning file for YouTube (this needs to be made as accessible as possible!), and it'd be much easier if it's already transcribed. If not, I can type up a transcript myself (I've already gotten hal... |

Not a regular poster here anymore, but I found this post via my Google Reader search for posts regarding Autism Speaks. I've written several blog posts on the controversy, which you can find here:

Hope this is at least somewhat helpful. |

With walking I guess I scan a bit. I will look straight forward ie eye level to the horizon and scan back, I guess I will pay most attention to the ground about five body lengths in front of me. Hm, maybe I'm not as far off as I thought, then... I was thinking you were talking about not looking at ... |

Oh, and someone on another forum gave me a great idea for how to judge how far away I am side-to-side from the other car: using the passenger-side mirror! I don't know why I didn't think of that. I remember reading on some other site that it should be approximately the amount of space that would be ... |

doordoctor wrote: heres another (safer) method, when in car looking at lane, put it into 2 imaginary parts left and a right side (depending on drive of car) put urself in that side of lane.
Like, right in the middle of that half of the lane? OK, that helps. |

(not knowing if your vehicle is left drive or right drive) what u do is if its a road with sidelines, make sure center of hood is close to or near the sideline from the angle of sight from were you are sitting(helps if vehicle has a hood ornament) with an unmarked side street, line up edge of curb ... |

I find that where I look, tends to be where I end up going. And this applies whether I'm walking, cycling or driving a car. The time this is most obvious is when I try to walk along something narrow, like a bit of the curb, or a painted line or a balance beam. I do much better if I look up and ahea... |

I know this isn't *directly* related to the topic of parallel parking, but it's related to the spatial perception issues I've already discussed: Any tips for staying within a lane of traffic, in particular on a curvy road where you can't just hold the wheel still, without constantly looking down at ... |

adjusting passenger side mirror? Ok it might help if you have some object you can see in it. To adjust it to view things closer to the back of the car and perhaps slightly including the car, you would adjust it so it points more inwards, ie the angle the mirror makes with the car in the horizontal ... |

Can you see the cone in your passenger side mirror? You ought to be able to see the cone and the back of your car in the side mirror (if you wriggle a bit) . If you can't, adjust it until you can. If you don't have a passenger side mirror, this whole thing might end up difficult. I can see the cone... |

Sometimes when I am parking, I get out the car and look at how much room I've got, and then when I get back in, I leave the door open, line a bit of it up with stuff on the ground and use that for my reference point to go the required distance. However, you won't be able to do that in the test. Thi... |

It's simple enough if you have enough spatial awareness, but if you dont you will have trouble. That's exactly where my problem lies. My spatial awareness is bad enough *outside* of the car! (Any tips for building that up, anyway? I'm serious here; I honestly have no idea.) when the cone appears in... |

Until very recently, I had only parallel parked successful ONE TIME! And it was during my driver's training. It was the first time I'd ever parallel parked and I was so nervous. The instructor was very calm (surprising for someone who makes a living riding in a car with various inexperienced teenag... |

First I got an instructor to teach me in the car I'd be using to take the test. This is going to sound really sad, but I did that... and I forgot to write down the reference points that the instructor taught, so now I've forgotten them. I guess *next* time I go to a driving instructor, I'll remembe... |

http://www.teendriving.com/parallel.htm ...explains it pretty well... OK, a few questions about how to actually pull off some of these maneuvers, based on the problems I mentioned above: aligning your rear tires with the other car's rear bumper ...how do you tell? I know where the 'rear bumper' of ... |

I know this sounds like a silly question, but I would really like to be getting my driver's license Just for Emergency's Sake before too incredibly long (I still probably won't actually get a car, as it's way too costly for me at the moment, and besides, I'm somewhat of an environmentalist neo-hippi... |
