As has been pointed out Spree killing is mostly an American male thing that has spread to other parts of the world. American males in general have not and won't be discriminated against because it is impractical for several reasons "Odd, Weird" AS people will be, so it is important that the most ne...

NBC Nightly News mentioned a family spokesperson said he had a form of autism but did not mention anything about the denial. It is not an either or situation, we as a society should do both. It is not a denial reaction, it is a fear reaction based on experience. If Aspergers starts getting mentione...

He used to have that same type of extreme thinking, he swore to himself to never speak to a woman again Okay. Been there, done that. Actually, I swore off talking to anybody else again, of whatever gender, as a result of what happens when my social ineptitude wreaked havoc again. I'm still in a pos...

Look-- I have come to the realization that I COULD HAVE BEEN A SHOOTER. Really and truly-- when I was 14 years old, I was on a path that very realistically could have led to a gun (or a gas attack, or vehicular homicide, or something equally foul). I was isolated, I hated myself and everyone around...

I'm a wife and a mother to two outstanding autistic human beings. That being said, I find absurd that people on the spectrum, parents and family members seem to be outraged when mass shooters profiles come to the light with a diagnosis of Asperger's or some other psychiatric issue. Regardless whethe...

I don't get it either, honestly... My son is almost 6 and still can't point. Whenever he sees a plane in the sky, he would show it to me with the hand open. It's like he doesn't understand the index finger pointing towards something. I think he's autistic, not just developmentally delayed. It's nice...

Thanks btbnnyr! My son is a bizarre case, he has good joint attention and ToM but has always lacked speech and pretend play (both spontaneous and prompted). He only copies (mimics) what he finds interesting. His neuropsychologists refuses to label him as autistic because of his joint attention, and ...

If I were studying implicit social cognition (which I am), I would split ASD subjects into two groups, those who pretend played when they were children (age five or so) and those who did not. I think that lack of pretend play is verry merry berry important autistic trait that indicates lack of impl...

Ayn Rand was probably an Aspie too. Brilliant but didn't understand the concept of altruism, and please, notice that I'm not suggesting that AS are a bunch of self absorbed egoistic people, just that empathy is hard to understand for many (although not for all) in the spectrum.

According to Mottron et al. enhanced pure-tone pitch discrmination is a feature of HFA but not Asperger's.

When I make posts for my blog, I have to start with the pictures of what I want to communicate. Then, I make the pictures. Then, I write the words to describe the pictures. If I try to write the words before I make the pictures, it will not work. I don't know what to write. For me, a big part of de...

Regressive autism might be its own subtype. Regressive autism is most associated with big brain size during an early developmental period. Study has shown that big brain growth occurs months before the behavioral regressions become obvious. Indeed, my son was on the 90th percentile just before the ...

First I got diagnosed with Aspergers but it got changed into Autistic Disorder later, as my parents remembered after the first diagnosis that I regressed in speech age two years old. I did not talk until 1.5 years at all and then started to speak and at age 2 I regressed to being non-verbal again. ...

You're welcome. I can't speak for anyone else, but I find it very difficult to initiate any thoughts in writing, without a comment first that stimulates a response . The internet is great for that because there are so many comments out there. Most every post I start is usually in response to a comm...
