I had a rough childhood (uh, who didn't?) ;-) and I had a lot of trouble with not sleeping and ruminating on bad thoughts. I really loved to read the encyclopedia so I learned everything I could about how memory works and went to the library so I could figure out how to stop thinking about bad thing...

After taking one of those Asperger's diagnostic tests and it mentioned a fixation on "flowing water", I remembered that when I was 3 or 4, I would get up in the middle of the night, run a bath and stick my toes in the faucet. I asked my mom and she remembered it well because I would lock t...

When I see someone is upset, I try to behave the way I have seen on TV. I will hug that person and listen and try to say comforting things. It's not that I don't empathize, but when I am upset, I don't want anyone to talk to me or touch me. If someone tries to hug me, I just get more upset. Normally...

Any one else cry when they see someone else cry? I have never been able to control it. Even if I see someone cry on TV, my eyes instantly well up. I've asked this before, but haven't seen any response. Additionally, once I start crying (not sympathetic crying, but actual crying because I'm personall...

I used to think that the fact that I automatically cry if I see someone cry (even on TV) and that I am extremely empathetic meant that I couldn't possibly have Asperger's. I believe that newer research indicates an excess of empathy is more likely than "no empathy". I have poor coordinatio...

3 I rarely go anywhere new by myself because I always get lost and it is very stressful. If I pay close attention and memorize landmarks to get back, it helps, but whatever "feels" like the correct direction is almost invariably wrong. Should probably do a poll 1 I'm Male, Autistic, and ha...

The Milkman is right -- masturbate! ;-) It turns out that this is among the most calming things we can do. I can't seem to find the research article (which is very dry and technical, so I know we would all love it!), but the release of oxytocin helps with anxiety and stress, particularly in Aspie gi...

Does anyone else here cry if they see someone cry? Even if I just see someone's eyes start to tear up on a TV commercial - even if I don't know why they are crying. It works exactly like yawning when you see someone else yawn. I don't start full-on weeping or have a meltdown, but at the very least m...

I say this because I am a sixteen year old girl whose brother has attempted to explain to me what it's like to "be a man" by saying that his approach to sex and girls is "that is a candy bar (girl). I want it." And he won't necessarily buy the candy bar, but he is tempted by it....

Personally, I like my logic in this case: Autism is accurately diagnosed early in nearly all cases due to its verbal impairment, and the ratio of autism is 4/5 to 1 of males to females. Now, if Asperger's is seen as autism but without the verbal impairment, then the ratio should logically transpose...

I don't have great motor skills, never an athlete. I'm a lot older than most people here, but in the 80s, many girls didn't participate in sports so perhaps it just didn't come up the way it might for boys. I have zero sense of direction and get lost all the time, so much so that it has affected my ...

I'm a hetero female, but yeah, I do tend to be more like a stereotypical man in that I enjoy sex without love, don't like to cuddle and dig those dumb Hangover movies. I'm not particularly warm or nurturing, but if I were a man, I don't think anyone would notice. I have no idea if it has anything to...

Based on what I have read so far, there is little difference between the NT pop and aspie population when it comes to sex drive and dysfunction although the term "asexual" is thrown around. I find that my sexual desire goes through phases that are probably more related to age and change than asperge...
