I'm feeling really down about this tonight because I can't figure out if someone online insulted me or not. It's frustrating because sarcasm is even harder to detect when it's written. I made a creative-type post, and they responded agreeing with my post, except they started with "ALL RIGHT BUT" and... |

I think this is a lot of what my problem making friends is. That and I'm bad at following all the little social norms (when to call, talking too much, not remembering special occasions, etc.) I'm married, but beyond that I have never had what I would consider a real friend. I've always thought I lac... |

My son uses a 10mg Daytana patch every day and it helps tremendously with reducing his hyperactivity. It slows his impulsiveness, but does not stop it. His sensory issues become less seeking and more avoiding though. He becomes possible to work with for teachers and such on it. He also only kicks/th... |

You never go into parenting expecting a perfect child--it is unrealistic. Even NT children can have conduct disorders, mood disorders, personality disorders, genetic disorders or predispositions, and on and on. NT children who go through childhood without a hitch can still turn out addicted to drug... |

We had good results from public kindergarten. A lot of times they can help with the "low hanging fruit" skills that you do not really care -that- much about, and so don't designate time for, but for whatever reason they do care about. With us, that was stand-up peeing (I have a boy.) I really didn'... |

My husband and I had awful childhoods (bullying for me, bullying and abuse for him), after some chaotic teen years we both turned out reasonably well-adjusted. We both had jobs, our own apartments, some friends, etc. Then we met each other and have been happily married (mostly, a few flare ups, but ... |

I'm not sure how to proceed in regards to my son's future. I feel lost, and in limbo, and I'm awful at making decisions so I'm at risk of being in this state forever. Powerman (nickname), will be five years old in a few weeks. I feel like by putting him in public kindergarten I will be destroying hi... |

Thank you so much for all the responses. I was both home and public schooled as well, and I much, much preferred homeschooling. In college I found I preferred web classes, and I seem to learn better without the stress and distraction of people. I have very little need for socialization though, so I ... |

For the ease of communication I will be referring to my sons' by their nicknames from this point on. My 3 year old is called "Brains" (because he barely moved as an infant, and just kind of observed everyone), and my almost-five year old with possible ASD is called "Powerman" (because he's like an u... |

I'm thankful that my faith doesn't depend on whether or not someone I pray for gets a healing. That said I do pray everyday for my children and consider my faith an important part of who I am. My husband doesn't consider me much of a Christian......though. He says I should pray God rewires my brain... |

I still think the CRAZIEST response is: it's all in your head. Your child is autistic because you think they are. If you thought of them as a neurotypical child, they would be. Akin to 'autism is a made-up diagnosis to make parents feel better about their child's avoidable bad behavior". Right . . ... |

Yesterday while I was in the shower my 4YO with PDD_NOS managed to find a tube of superglue and glue his eye shut. It was up high and not in plain sight. I didn't even know it was there. He climbed up on a chair and went searching for stuff to mess with. I washed his eye for a few seconds with much... |

It is my cup of tea. :) My secondary cup of tea, classical music is my favourite. Metal + classical? That's a wonderful combination to like. My brother used to only listen to Kate Bush or Metalica, which I always thought was odd, but neat that he liked such opposite things. My favorite musical styl... |

Overheard at the medical clinic yesterday. NT: Knock, knock. Aspie: Why are you saying that? NT: It's the beginning of a joke, Roger. You're supposed to say, "who's there?" Aspie: But I know who you are. You're my friend Simon and you gave me a lift down here. NY: Yes, but I'm trying to tell a joke... |

For the sake of the question, lets assume that: An IEP would be in place for public school, and it would be suited to your needs. The method of homeschooling would be tailored to your interests, private therapies would be provided as needed, and social opportunities would be available to whatever ex... |
