Thank you all for your ideas. I appreciate it. I'm still open to new suggestions. I am a little apprehensive about truck driving as I recently was in a bad accident and am a little bit shell-shocked. It would be great to have something I could do from home; I know the internet is supposed to be a pl...

I have been a truck driver for 12 years. Previously I worked in the publishing field as a writer and editor; also in municipal government as an Engineering Technician. But both those jobs were years ago and the landscape has changed; also I have no recent experience in either. But I had a truck acci...

I was diagnosed with Aspergers last year. I just turned 58, and have been living with these symptoms for most if not all of my life. Isolation and poor social support systems: I have always been more comfortable alone, that is, I have always felt more secure and relaxed alone. But I don't enjoy the ...

I know I probably don't qualify for disability due to Aspergers, anxiety and depression disorders, as I have always been able, somehow, to make it as a truck driver. The job takes a terrible toll on my mental health, however. Also, I wonder if I'm a danger to myself and others on the road? Would I q...

Actually that does help, and I appreciate the idea of just focusing on the present moment... A lot of my worry has to do with what MAY happen, not what is happening right now. I'm always fearing the worst and that causes great anxiety. So trying to just stay in tune with "right now" and not think ab...

I have read a few posts on this thread about people with anxiety problems due to their Aspergers-related issues with other people. I have acute general anxiety overall (I'm stressed a great deal of the time, just a nonspecific dread I feel) and I also suffer from extreme social anxiety. I usuallly c...

I've been thinking about starting up a blog or website where I talk about my life dealing with Aspergers and other aspects of my mental disorders: anxiety and depression. Does anyone think this is a good idea? Would it be helpful for others or just a waste of time and effort?

Thank you for the advice, gonewild. I was a little put off by the Mozart and the Whale. I'm not anything like those people in that film and so wondered after viewing it if I even have Aspergers at all. I know I'm a mess, I just don't know what label to put to it. I know you're right about getting of...

For example: I saw the movie Mozart and the Whale. I'm terrible with numbers (well, not terrible, but not anywhere near as adept as the character in that story), nor do I have any "special" skill such as that in any other area of my life. So does that mean I'm not Aspie?

I was diagnosed with Aspergers last year. I have historically had problems dealing with people, so I understand that aspect of it. But I don't have any all-consuming interests that I'm totally focused on: I don't spend hours each day cataloging variations in the body structure of individually-examin...

Hope you get it resolved soon and get all the stress allevieated. Lammiu suggested the film Mozart and the Whale and I've been tryin...

lammiu, I REALLY appreciated your reply to my post today. After reading it, I've spent several hours watching videos on Youtube about Aspergers; I listened to people talking about their lives and how they deal with their diagnosis, and I've realized a few things about myself and my life as a result....

Hello. I would like to talk with people who, like me, are older (I'm 57) and diagnosed with Aspergers. I just want to talk and share info/life experiences/whatever as I try to learn how to deal with this condition. I have tried this in the chat room, but those folks all appear to be much younger tha...

Thank you for responding, it really made my day. I've been feeling depressed putting myself out there and not hearing anything back. This is all so personal you know. My psychologist said I suffer from major depressive disorder, anxiety disorder, Aspergers disorder, and alcohol abuse. The latter my ...

I have a couple questions for you all. As a child I seemed ok socially. I was able to make friends with both boys and girls. In fact I had a "girlfriend" in first grade whom I gave a ring too--I got the ring as a prize out of a gumball machine. However, I had a traumatizing year-long experience duri...
