As much as I agree with its capacity to trivialize AS, I am struck by how many of the more likely candidates for AS are taking it. For my generation, we never assumed a spectrum, we just thought if we weren't Rainman, we were basically NT. At least folks are acknowledging variety now.

Yeah, I kind of thought he seemed gay myself. I think given his actions, that actually might be pertinent. Whether he is AS or not doesn't really seem to matter: there are many reasons for obsessions and delusions, such as schizophrenia. And since his bigotry doesn't seem to be aimed at AS folks, it...

This guy has been posted on a bunch of blogs. He has a blog that tries to defame a UofMichigan student council member who is openly gay. Many commentators on these blogs note that this harasser also seems gay himself. They also at times try to blame AS for his behavior. I am actually on the fence ab...

I've had pretty good luck with various sulbutiamine products. It is kind of a weird change in how the mind works. I get a lot more done, aka have better executive function, but it kind of makes one a bit less creative and free thinking. I generally don't think being less creative is a problem for me...

I never knew that autism had a grip. I thought that it was a disorder, that just was. I've never seen it, as a monster. It is just a disorder. Milder forms provide a unique way of thinking that can be beneficial, but in more severe forms an effective treatment could be immensely beneficial. Even ha...

You got a fever from contact with an infant??? Ive had contact with lots of infants and they dont give me a fever!..a low grade fever can be caused by a virus and sometimes just from pain or inflammation. A low grade fever is between 99F and 101F. Some people do have a lower or higher body temperat...

Some of that rings a bell with me. But first - what do you mean by low grade fever? Because mine rarely goes higher than 36C (96.8F) and I thought low-grade meant below 37 (98.6F). And I have no pulse at all - the doctor can't find it, I have never found it - eventually they send for an experienced...

This is not a simple "Us vs. Them" fight between the Israeli government and the Palestinian population within the old British Mandate. Arabs within Israel can vote, be elected to the Knesset, serve in the Cabinet, the public service and the military, and enjoy the full range of civil liberties. But...

Yup. Can't do it all the time since time, money, and life get in the way. But I do love the exploration and all the things you can learn about and meeting people outside my corner of the world and having my oddness confused with my foreigness! I also go through periods with an obsessive mini-interes...

After they got into a fight with the Israeli boarding party, things went wrong. While the fire by the boarding party was understandable self-defence, they should have been using rubber bullets. (Not that they can't kill someone at close range, but y'know) You don't bring rubber bullets to a fight i...

I posted this in a thread in the News/Current events on the research on Autism and fevers and was hoping to start some discussion. It's a little quiet there, so I thought this might be a better forum to post this. Thanks to all who read it! The original post: I have the (mis-?)fortune of currently h...

If that research is accurate, then it means Autism may be less complex than we thought. If it's right, and that's a big IF, then it opens up a number of doors to treating autism spectrum disorders. The question is how does the brain react when it has a fever? What changes? Yes. I should say that I ...

I have the (mis-?)fortune of currently having a low grade fever, thanks to recent contact with an infant. And I thought I'd share some observations. First of all, while this is really unpleasant, I am the most optomistic about life I have been in a long while. I hurt physically, but emotionally this...

Don't know if this thread is dead forever, but whatever, it seems to be the one autism/fever thread. I have experience with the fever helping out with major AS symptoms/comorbids. Mostly, it reduces my reaction to certain irritating stimuli and most important of all, it improves my executive functio...

AS people CAN have advantages over NTs: we have different strengths and weakness. While everyone is unique, often our differences are much more stark. This can mean our doing things no one else considers doing, which usually just makes us weird, but sometimes it makes us very, very effective. I woul...
